Hi, my lo has just turned 1, he's on formula so I know he gets all he needs in that but I really would like him to at least have some boiled water or juice in this hot weather. when I give him a beaker he just plays with it and bites the spout, he doesn't know how to suck out of it. Hv recommended I get a free flowing beaker but that don't seem to work either

Perhaps try a straw? Either adult straw that you hold or a straw sippy cup. :flow:

We have a sistema twist top bottle. Have been using it for a while and DD loves it. She is one in a couple of weeks and has no problems with it.

My LO loves his straw cup! He doesn't have to tilt it to drink either, just hold it and suck. He just figured it out in the end.

Both my 2 used (and still use) straw cups as they would drink a lot more from them than an open cup. We use oxotot twist top straw cups now, though the valves ones were easier at that age - we used Tommy tippee ones.

We started with a MAM trainer bottle that had a nipple similar to the bottle nipple, but more like a soft spout sippy cup...it took a few tries to get her to be ok with it, she would take a few sips then look at it and give me this look like "heyyyyyyyy.....you're trying to fool me! this isnt my baba nipple! WAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!" and one day that just stopped and she drank all of the bottle from the transition nipple, which then i bought cups that had a very similar spout (Nuby brand i believe), and she took to those, but dribbled all over the place...she finally settled on straw cups, so we are using those now, Munchkin brand click lock cups, though im wanting to look into other similar brands since half the time i cant get them to not leak (my error, not the cup im sure! :dohh:)...she still doesnt like water, sometimes she will take some juice, but she looooves her milk :haha:

Just keep trying different things. Give it to him to play with somewhere where it won't matter if he gets wet and just let him explore, in the bath is good or outside if it's warm. Do that regularly and he'll eventually get it. I found the free flow ones were easier than the ones they have to suck, but a straw cup or an open cup (doidy cup) worked best. I would maybe start by trying a straw cup if you haven't yet. They're much easier because they don't need to be held up and tipped back to drink from (which can be heavy for little arms to do long enough to work out how to drink from it). We use the mama straw cups. But my daughter also found a doidy cup much easier than a beaker. We didn't use those beakers with the lid and spout for very long.

This is my LGs favourite cup https://m.direct.asda.com/Miracle-360-Trainer-Cup/002607951,default,pd.html we started with the tommee tippee free flow cups, it was a good few tries before she stopped being surprised and spitting the water out but she got it within a week of offering it several times a day.

What I did was take the lid off and let my DD take a sip from the open cup to show her there was water in it. Then I put the lid back on and she immediately knew what to do. This was with a straw cup, though.

Thanks everyone, I'm gonna give a straw cup a go I think.
