No ovulation after positive OPK?

Hello everyone!

I am brand new here, have been off bc for about 6 months and have been really monitoring (temping, OPKs) for two months.

Last month everything worked like clockwork- I got positive OPKs CD 11 and 12, bbt rise day day 13 and it stayed up until AF came. I had ewcm and lots of other symptoms.

This month everything seems crazy! I got a positive OPK on CD 16 but no bbt rise and the OPKs have been negative every day since. I am not on CD 20 and still negative and no bbt rise. I am now feeling like I am having ovulation pain, but maybe that is just wishful thinking?

Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think I could still O or will this probably be an anovulatory cycle? It's so frustrating! If it is a strange cycle, how likely is it to be "normal" again next month?

I'm still learning so thank you for you help!!

Lots of things can throw off your body's ovulation schedule, namely stress. It happens...some months our cycles just have minds of their own.

To answer your questions - yes, you could definitely still O. It could just be delayed for some reason. And yes, you could still have a very normal cycle next month.

Just keep doing what you're doing and keep your eye on things!

Thanks! Your response literally made me start crying. It was so positive and hopeful! And you're right about the stress...I've got to cool it! If only I knew how... :)

Sometimes the body gears up to O and things just aren't quite ready yet. Usually, it takes about a week for a new surge to come around.

Also, it is possible to take up to 72 hours to ovulate after a +OPK. The norm is 36 hours, but up to 3 days is possible. (This is why BD'ing every other day until you see a temp shift is a good idae- kudos to you for charting!) Since it can take a couple days to get a temp spike after O, it's possible you could see a rise tomorrow.

Just keep up with the charting and OPK's, but don't stress too much. If you're normally pretty regular in your cycle, one odd cycle is nothing to worry about. On average, a perfectly healthy woman will have one weird cycle per year.

Oh sweetie, figuring out how not to stress is the hardest thing. I've had the same problems since starting TTC. Just a month in, I became a crazy person...I don't think my husband knew what to do with me. The best thing I did was to start talking to people on these forums. Suddenly a lot of the crazy just melted away. Not all of it...haha...but a lot of it.

I'm taking a month off because I had to have surgery to remove a kidney stone literally RIGHT when I entered my fertile window...:dohh:...but seriously, I kinda feel like somebody out there knew I needed a break, because I feel so much calmer than I have in months. Renewed. TTC is the most stressful thing I've ever gone through in my whole life. I think the most important things you can do to relieve the stress are 1- talk about it with people who understand and 2- find other things to keep your mind busy.

I hope you O soon, darlin! :hugs:

Keep POASing! It's completely possible for your body to have a fake surge in preparation for the real surge. Though this doesn't happen to me, I know several ladies on BnB that this happens to regularly. I also recommend peeing on multiple OPKs every day, just so you don't miss the surge. Keep temping and monitoring your CM too. When in doubt, BD it out. :)
