No ultrasound until 20 weeks?

Hello! Wondering if anyone is in the same boat? I am not going to be given any ultrasound until 20 weeks .... apparently we will listen for the heartbeat at the next appointment (11 weeks) but even then we might not hear it? [I just can't imagine the possibility of that - I would probably flip out and go into hysterics!]

My miscarriage last year was a missed miscarriage - pregnancy stopped developing prior to 8 weeks before I started bleeding at 12 weeks. I was uninformed last time and thought my body would react immediately if something went wrong, so I was getting super excited as I approached the 'safe' 12 week mark. Had no idea things could just stop and then have a super delayed reaction. Right now I am sitting at the 8ish week mark, just assuming and finger crossing that everything is good... anyone else in the same boat? Please share your experiences and stories

This feels like an agonizingly long wait for reassurance!!

i live in the us and iv already had 3 ultrasound. one at 5-6 days since i was concerned about m/c one at 8 weeks and one at 13-5 weeks for birth defects.

I have my first ultrasound tomorrow, I will be 8 weeks & 5 days. I wasn't going to have a scan until I was 12 weeks but they were able to get me in for an U/S at another place and it's way closer to home too. This scan is to make sure of my dates and everything. They want to monitor me a bit more closely since we lost our son at 29 weeks this past June. I will probably have the usual scan at 20 weeks in December. I am a nervous wreck waiting for tomorrow though. I am glad that we get to have an early ultrasound. With my son I didn't have one until I was 20 weeks. When we saw him, he was smiling away and waving at us lol. I have a few ultrasound pics of him smiling too.

Can't believe that Tamzig. I'm in Canada too, and everyone gets one here around 8-10 weeks I think. You could always have some "spotting" and go to emergency.

I'm amazed you wont be getting a dating scan? I'm in the US also and if you haven't had a loss you have a dating scan around 10-12 weeks to confirm your dates. with losses they usually do one around 8 weeks if you've had more than one loss. I would claim spotting and go in if they wont do a dating scan. I hate lying but honestly, 20 weeks is damn ridiculous!

you could also pay for a private scan.. here in california, theres places that only charge $20 if youre under 13 weeks.. $60 if over 14 weeks. Its worth a shot, esp for the peace of mind
