Ok, so my OH hates moses baskets, they give him the creeps (its a rosemary's baby thing) sooooo does anyone know of where I might be able to find a non chintzy, gender neutral non wicker moses basket...?

WOuld I be able to use a travel cot and just buy a better mattress???

While dont you just buy a cot if he doesnt like mosese baskets? i really dont think you should use a travel cot. i think all moses baskets are wicker!!

get a little crib

We are getting a cot but I know alot of friends babies dont like being in cots early on as they are too spacious, also the cot we are getting would take up alot of room in our bedroom and so I wanted to get something just for the first few months.

YEah Ihave looked at the cribs and I like them but just seems expensive to buy a crib and mattress and thena cot and mattress as well.

See, I really cant see the difference between a travel cot with a moses quality (if not better) mattress in it and a moses basket...am I missing something?

I'd splash out on the extra £50 or so and get a crib instead of the travel cot. Travel cots are obviously not intended for long term use.

Also im sure you can find a second hand crip in your local paper or something and make sure its clean as long as u have a new mattress it wont matter! Or tell your OH to stop being stupid lol men r worse than babies...

Or if you just buy a cot and wrap baby up tight at night in a cellular blanket they tend to sleep better anyway

Travel cots are obviously not intended for long term use.

I know they arent but thats just because of the mattress ( if you can call them that they are a peice of thin foam). They make the matresses thinner so as to make them easy to pack away when travelling...

Ill speak to OH later, its not just the money just seems a tad excessive to have a cot, crib and a travel cot for when we go to see his mum etc!

What about something that can go in the big cot that will make it seem smaller x

Yeah we still will struggle to fit it in our room though. Wanted something smaller just for the first three months or so

I was gonna get one of these instead of moses basket but then was gievn moses basket

Seems good price.

Or what about a wicker moses basket but the wicker is covered up?

What about this? I think they're lovely...you've got to think that travel cot mattress would be ok anyway as moses basket mattress is only thin foam anyway. So you could always go down travel cot route.

Or this...oh I want one so much for living room in day time! :)

We've bought a Graco Coutour Electra Travel Cot https://www.graco.co.uk/en_GB/product/9D99/008/

We're going to use that in the bedroom for the first few months as it has a bassinet that can be used for newborns. They also sell it in the petite version too if space is tight :D

I didn't want to spend money on items that would only get a few months use and when LO goes into his own room into a cotbed, we'll use the travel cot for when we go and stay with friends / family or as a playpen (if we need to).

xx

your going to have to have a cot in your room at some point lol!!!! We are in a one bed flat and not a very big one either and we cant afford a bigger place and council wont help us! So we are going to have to have a massive move around so we can fit things in after its more important my son has a bed than me having a dressing table lol

We arent planningto have the cot in our room. The nursery is next door to our bedroom so the plan is 4 months or so in our room then baby in the nursery.

Thats for all your suggestions girls...ill look into them all :)

We got this as both DH and i hate moses baskets.

If you go for a travel cot i would get one with a bassinet as a normal travel cot is big and quite sparse. It is also a long way down and the baby sleeps close to the floor. I had a moses basket last time and didn't like using it so we have decided to get a crib this time for our room, as like you have space issues.
I only ever used my mamas and papas travel cot for holidays and on the rare occasions that kian slept at my parents.
They are quite big and bulky from what i remember and don't look very comfy.
If i was you i would go and have a look at some to help you decide.
