governement guidelines say a baby should drink 2.5 oz for every lb of body weight which means my LO should b having somewhere around 7 oz each feed...he's barely doing 5oz!

i always offer him 5 and sometimes he finishes it (prob abt 1 bottle a day) but mostly he has anywhere between 2-4oz. I have shifted around his feeding routine and dropped a bottle to see if it made him more hungry coz sometimes he seems completely disinterested in his food. i also tried switching brands from sma to aptimil and changing from slow flow teats to variflow. He follows the follwing pattern:

anywhere between 6-8 wake up drink anything between 3-5oz
between 10-11 drinks 3-5 oz
2.30-3.30 completely disinterested and is a massive struggle to get 2oz down him...quite often involved offereing him the rest of his bottle at various points until abt 5pm to see if he wants any
7.30-8 4oz sometimes 5oz
used to dream feed at midnight and he'd also wake at 4am but have recently started leaving him to wake us for any night feeds and tends to only wake once between 3-4am. we work on a sliding scale of 2am or b4 offering 5oz 3am offering 3 oz and from 4-6am offering 2 oz then counting it as morning from 6am onwards.

i'm concerned he's not getting enough to eat but he never seems hungry?!

He's 8 weeks- is this normal?

I THINK Ruby was on 7oz at 8 weeks, every 3 hours during the day, last feed at 10.30pm and she'd sleep til about 8.30am.

Going on the 2.5oz per lb rule, Ruby 'should' be on 45oz (5 x 9oz bottles) which is what we do offer, (NOT because of the guidelines though!) but that's the very maximum she will take in a day, and she's a very hungry baby!

Don't worry about guidelines, he'll drink what he needs. Once he drops the night feeds he will take more milk during the day anyway.

I really wouldn't worry about what the guidelines say, every baby is different. The key thing is that they are having 5 or 6 wet nappies a day and are gaining weight steadily.

My Lo is a really chunky monkey and she drinks no where near what the guidelines say and never has but it's not stopped her growing as she is in the 87th percentile for height and weight!

They just like to confuse and worry us don't they!

My DS is also 8 weeks and I often wonder if he's having enough..I go by what cow&gate say on their formula tub - the guidelines for an 8 week old is five feeds of 6floz so that is what i give him.

This was his routine yesterday: night feed 3.30am 5floz (he slept from 7pm til this time!), wake up feed 7.30am 5floz, 12.15pm 6floz, 4.15pm 6floz, bedtime feed 6.30pm 2floz only (was so tired), night feed 1.30am 4floz, wake up feed (today)6.30am 6floz.

Every baby is different. Have you had yours weighed? that will put your mind at ease.

i'm due to get him weighed 2moro so yeah i'm sure that'll help...he is a little chunker tho so it baffles me as to y he never eats anything...i really get myself at it that he doesn't like his formula or the teats r too small etc etc. :-p
