not going to my baby shower??

my sister is giving me and my niece a joint baby shower how rude would it be not show?? its in another state and orignaily we were going to drive there with my mom and dad but now there is no room in the car (they gave are seats away). after thinking it over we just can not afford the trip the train tickets will be $250 plus the petsitter is another $350 with the new baby coming i dont think we can waste the money since im not working and we live check to check it will cost way more money then we would ever get in gifts. but since invites have already been sent out what should i do?

I'd be honest and explain the situation to your sister. Say you are touched she wants to do something for you and you were really excited to be going out there but that realistically, without being able to catch a lift with your parents anymore, its just not an option.
Apologise and be really humble about it!
