Hi!
My husband and I have been TTC for 13 months. Starting seeing a fertility doc last month, and began bloodwork and clomid challenge last week. Now my bloodwork came back with a result of not immune to chicken pox, even though I had them as a child. Actually my results were 1.0 which is called equivocal. It's like in between immune and not immune. So now the doc. is suggesting I get the vaccine, and then we have to wait for 2 months to get pregnant again. Has anyone else had this happen to them? What did you do?

I declined to get tested for the antibodies because, like you, I also had chicken pox as a child. So if we didn't get immunity from having the actual disease, we won't get immunity from a synthetic man-made vaccine. Also, if you have to wait 2 months after getting the vaccine to start trying again, what does that mean that it's doing to your body? Our bodies are obviously having a hard enough time already without giving them anymore obstacles.

That's just my opinion, but I do happen to be a physician and do a lot of vaccine research. Best of luck to you in your ttc journey! I'm at 18 months so I feel your pain. :hugs:

Interesting. WayPastReady, I liked reading your thoughts.

My situation was a bit different in that I had the vaccine as a child, but it was when it was VERY VERY new and I never had the booster shot (I was about ten, and at the time it was believed it could be a one-and-done vaccine, now they realize... not so much)

So in my situation, because I have never actually HAD chicken pox (so i don't believe I have the same type of antibodies as someone who had)... I DID get vaccinated and waited the two months to go back to trying.

I did struggle with the decision though because I'm not a fan of the chicken pox vaccine in general.

I'd be very interested in hearing WayPastReady's thoughts on the flu vaccine WHILE someone is pregnant (towards the end usually). Part of me says NO way (I never take the flu vaccine).

But as a farmer, I know it's safer to give a pregnant animal a vaccine than to give it to the newborn. And I know the flu can be life threatening to a newborn.

I don't mean to get too political here, but I'd be curious if anyone has thoughts.

My mom says I had chicken pox but I can't remember and I was tested as not immune so I got the vaccine. My gyno did tell me however, that it was probably ok to start trying. She said the vaccine don't start working until 3 months later, but this is only a problem if somehow you get pregnant right away, and then contract chicken pox in your first trimester. Both of those together is not super likely. So I'd say, get vaccine asap, continue trying for 2 more months naturally, and then go for treatment after that.

Also my vaccine was 2 shots, one within a couple of weeks of the other. It had to be a two parter for me, not sure about you. Kind of annoying but might be a good precaution to take.
