I was diagnosed with PCOS through a blood test and symptom matching when I was 16. Since then I just ignored the problem. Now we are starting to TTC I started skipping periods so I went for further PCOS tests at the hospital.

I have just had a letter from the hospital congratulating me on my perfectly normal pelvic scan and normal blood test results!!

Now before I attended the scans I had a hunt on the internet for scan images polycystic ovaries so I would know what I was seeing on the screen if the nurse would not talk me through it. As it was during the scan she talked me through everything and showed me the cysts on my ovaries and counted the cysts and said they look like typical polycystic ovaries and in her opinion I definitely had PCOS from the scans. Yet I now get told that they are normal?!

I really want to call the hospital and say I don't think is correct but I have to wait till the bank holiday is over.

If the letter is correct - what else can I have? I have been the same weight for years so weight change is not a factor, I am not stressed more than normal, allegedly my hormones are fine - I just don't know what else is wrong! I have all the spectrum of PCOS symptoms and I am currently skipping yet another period. This one is not really surprising really as this month I have been temping, monitoring CM and using the persona device out of curiosity and I saw no evidence of ovulation at all. Again not ovulation is not something I associate with a normal body!

Never mind always next month!

Hello you sound just like me. I had a laparoscopy and my consultant told me that I have typical ovaries of somebody with PCOS and also i have endometriosis. Although, I have had numerous hormone levels tested in my blood and they've always come back as NOT having PCOS. I do however have ALL of the symptoms other than hair on my face/breasts but i do have increased hair growth on my lower abdo which i was told by the consultant WAS because of my PCOS. It's like they're all contradicting each other and i feel like i'm banging my head against a brick wall!

I was also told by my GP last week that I AM ovulating and that was based on NO evidence at all. She said that because my period eventually arrives that it means i am ovulating...but surely if it arrives after 2-3 months that's not ovulating enough?? Keep pushing with the Dr's hun they're bloody useless but you will get somewhere in the end. I have to go in next week to discuss the next step to lower my testosterone. I bet you they say lose weight and send me off home...bearing in mind that i'm only 6lbs over my healthy weight...

I know this might not have helped you but at least now you know that you aren't alone in the "Have I or haven't i bloody got PCOS" boat LOL

Is it just me, or is that an incorrect assumption by your GP?

I was anovulatory while I had chemo last year, but I still had bleeds.
I was told that when the lining gets to a certain thickness it can just decide shed.
I might be wrong though, I am no expert after all!

you dont have to ov to have a af.some dont ov but still get periods

I know and so many women have told me this especially on here and i was gobsmacked when she told me! It's so confusing because she's supposed to be my GP but seems to be telling me crap!

it sounds like you do have PCOS. what sucks is that if you can't get the help you need for PCOS what are you supposed to do? If you don't get a period there is not alot you can do. I'd see another doctor.
You could try taking Maca as when I started taking that it got my cycle back on track after a couple of months. YOu could also use soy isoflavones instead of clomid (this is all if the doctor won't help you out)

I think it's yet another case of a hospital blunder!!! How can they say your scan was normal when the nurse talked you through policystic ovaries?! I do think you have PCOS. Unfotunately doctors still know little about PCOS ( mine even admitted it!) so I'm not surprised this is happening!

Here's what happened to me in Jan. I went for 4 months without a period after stopping the pill and went for a blood test. The Dr called me to say the results were normal, but didn't actually read out the numbers. I then went to see a gynaecologist in may and he requested my test results. He was shocked that my GP put a note to say it was fine as my LH:FSH ratio was 4:1 which is clearly PCOS:wacko: So I wasted 4 months thanks to the incompetence of my GP!

Id call the hospital asap and insist your scan wasn't healthy as the nurse said you have policystic o Ovaries!
