Not sure where to start.......

Me and a friend of mine are planning to do organise a sponsored walk to raise money for SCBU's in Inverness and Norwich...there seem to be a few people up for it..I know I have to ask the council for permission to use the land for fundraising...but thats as far as Ive got..has anyone ever organised anything like this before and can you give me any tips?
