I will be 11 weeks next week and my NT scan is scheduled for Wed. I am so nervous. I can't think about much else, and I am useless at work right now because I can't concentrate.

At first I was relieved because it was finally scheduled. I was having lots of trouble finding someone to do it. I moved to this area less than a year ago and have been very dissatisfied with the medical care available. It's a huge city, so there are lots of doctors to choose from. But they all seem to be very opinionated about what procedures should be done, especially when it comes to genetic testing ... most said don't bother.

I switched doctor to someone I didn't really like, but could at least get me scheduled right away and was willing to do the NT and then a CVS if necessary. And then his office charged me a $100 just for the initial office to transfer my records from another Dr (not even the actual exam which is next week). I checked with my insurance and this should of only been a $25 co-payment.

But as you know, I'm on a tight schedule for certain tests, so I just went ahead and paid it. I can't spare the time to figure out the financial and then miss the window of opportunity or testing. They did schedule a meeting with their billing specialist so I could go over all future billing procedures in detail.

Good luck with your NT scan. I was a nervous wreck before mine and it all turned out ok. I hope the same for you!

Where in Texas are you? I am from San Antonio, but I live in London now. I am very glad that I don't have to be dealing with insurance right now. What a nightmare! I hope it all works out with your new care providers.

Hi, I'm in Houston, but used to live in Austin and I know what you mean about finding a good Dr. My OB also charged me $100 for my initial visit but just said it was an "initial charge" and I didn't question them as I know nothing about how OB care is handled. I wonder if it is a TX thing for people with insurance? I did transfer records from another Dr. but I did all the work. All they had to do is pull the papers from their fax.

I just had my NT scan this week (my thread is on here) and my tech was horrible. I learn more from the ladies on this site than from the Dr.'s. I hope your tech is great as some people get great technicians.

Hi jtiki, I have my NT scan on Wednesday the 5th as well (I just turned 39). I've been reading on these forums about ladies who were told they had a really low chance Down's (1:7500) and their baby was born with it, and other ladies who were given like 1:25 and their baby was born without it. So while it's a definite concern I'm not letting myself get all worked up over it because it's just not something you can control either way - I will probably get amnio if it's offered.

I don't envy you having to deal with insurance issues while you're already stressed out - it's the number one reason why I'm not moving back to the States. Let's both keep our fingers crossed for happy results from Wednesday!
