I have posted a simular thread to this in the TTC forum, so appologies, but i thought it may be better of here.

I am beggining to fear that OH may have a low sperm count.
Unfortuneatly, between the ages of 15 and 20, he smoked a lot (not only cigarettes, it shames me to say!) and was in many fights.
So I am beggining to wonder if all my trying is never going to get me anywere, no matter what I try, as the problem may lay with him.
I have asked him to be checked up, but he clams up about it, I suppose it's not wanting to learn his swimmers may not be up to the job, and make him feel less of a man.
Baby Dust to you all.

Any ideas on what i should do.

Do any of your OH have a low sperm count, what do you do to overcome this whilst TTC.
X

We have low count caused by undescended testes and also some meds DH was on a for while.

He quite smoking and hot baths, cut down on alcohol, lost weight and exercise and takes a good multivit for me plus an extra 1000mg of vit c and maca every day. His count has improved from 1million to 16 million in the last 18 months.

We were told smoking can affect count but bearing in mind so many men smoke and have no fertility issues, it's more of a lifestyle change than anything. The average couple takes 12 months to fall preggers so if you get to that mark and have had no luck, take yourself off to the GP and i'm sure they'll be helpful and test you and your hubby. Good luck x

My OH had good sperm count but hardly any swimmers--more than likely from having undescended testicles as an infant. After spending a year TTC we did 2 IUIs which didn't work. We did IVF with ICSI March 2008 and got pregnant with twin girls. They are now almost 3 months old. :happydance:

I am dealing with low sperm count. We have done 2 IUI's. Just found out today that my 2nd did not work. I'm not sure what our next step is going to be.
Vineyard, thank you for your story. Glad to know the IVF was successful even though IUI wasn't.

My DH has low count, 3.6 million with low motility. We just met with the urologist today.
As long as your DH doesn't smoke weed now, he should be fine. If he smoked A LOT as a kid and I mean a LOT, there's only a 5% chance it could permanently do damage, so chances are you're fine.

There's no medical way to improve sperm count. Under no circumstances should your DH start taking steriods-- that's like birth control for men.
If some mean have a low FSH level, then they could be put on Clomid, but again, that only has a 20% chance of increasing the count.
Best to get a SA and go from there.
Also, ladies, I know this is TMI but make sure your man stays erect for at least 30 minutes before the canon goes off! This gets the blood flowing more and you're more likely to have a higher count. And BD only every other day in your fertile window. The sperm need time to replenish.

My success story is in the success story section here as well.
