when she does things like this .

the other week me and OH brought a car off her for £600, it was worth more but she said she wanted us to have it for that as she wanted to get rid of it quick so her daughters partner could not have it (she really dislikes him, yep i'll give him that he's lazy but hes not a bad guy really). we offered £1000 and she said no £600 if we have it that day which we did .

so we insured it and everything... and then that day she tells us she can't find the LOG book but assured us not to worry she'll sort it.... that was well over a week ago so OH texted her and asked if she had found it or got around to sorting a new one....

and she replied "nope havent and not going to" why?
"because you've only paid £600 therefore you should pay for the new LOG book-not me!!!"

we offered the full amount and she said no:shrug:. she gave us the car in a disgusting state all flaked dead skin all over the floor, seats etc... rubbish everywhere red light petol flashing.... but it was a car at the end of the day and we had lost ours in accident in july so were relieved to get on the road again!!! we done the car up and it looks LOVELY!!

were already paying an extra £100 a month insurance for it as she said to go ahead with it, because we'd be able to afford it now it was cheaper!!

its the principle.... shes so nasty!!! makes me wonder now why no one likes her!!!

will me and OH get introuble because she wont sort the log book?

xxx

I think legally you do need to change the owner, when organising your insurance did you say that you were the car owner? If you said you are and legally you're not that could have an impact on your insurance x

Is that the registration doc thing? I think the DVLA will just think she owns the car until she sorts it out if so.

i'll also add my OH and MIL was left £5000 by a relative when they passed away.... she spent all hers to buy the car..... but then went on to spend OH's money aswell on holidays, cars etc :(....

his brother and sister used there amount to buy themselves a car as OH was under 18.... OH is now 20 still not seen the money as she has spent it all on herself.

yeah we put the car as ours as we had no reason not to as they hadnt mentioned they couldnt find it.... was only that evening after insuring it they couldnt find it, but told us she'd sort it .

im confused wouldnt it just go against her as she sold it to us and its down to the seller to sort .

sorry i dont drive so dont know much a bout cars

will we get into trouble or will she?

she best pull her finger out and sort it... if not im not having nothing todo with her, she winds me up so much im sitting here in tears

a log book is that like a title? sorry im from the us lol

A new log book is about £20 - I had to get one for my old car about 2 years ago. Your MIL would have to be the one to call to order it from the DVLA though. If it was me, for my peace of mind, I'd just pay it and have done with it. I know it's not fair in principle but the insurers could refuse to pay out if things don't match up. Hope you get it sorted xx

You do not have to pay a fee in the following circumstances.
• If you are the new keeper and the previous keeper failed to tell us
about the change, you must have the New keeper’s details section
(V5C/2) from the V5C and send it to us with this application form.
• If the vehicle has been categorised as C salvage (repairs would cost
more than the vehicle was worth) by the insurance company and
they have destroyed the V5C. We will carry out checks to make sure
this is the case.
You have to pay for the following categories:
A = scrap only, B = break for spare parts only, and D = repairable.
You can get more information on salvage categories from the insurance company

Seems it would only cost 25 pounds to get a new one but it's the original owner who needs to apply. Sounds like OH needs to go over and talk to his mum and walk her through the process using his money since she's being so rigid about this. Once it arrives then you can tranfer ownership legally. Not sure what this will mean for isurance but I guess just not saying anything to the company might be advisable right now. ;)

Its an offence to fail to notify DVLA of a change of keeper, so she should have the vehicle registration before she sold the car to you. If she cannot be bothered to change it, all fines and tickets will land on her door step as she will still have responsibility for the car. Ask her, if she wants everything in her name... if not, suggest she gets her ass in gear to find it

 we dont have the new keepers section.... because we insured it as she told us she kept all documents together and had her hands on it straight away- obviously she lied and did not

It's £25 and takes 6 weeks as they contact the former keeper. Yes she is being stingy but I wouldn't get too wound up over it-you get a car out of it so it's best just to get on with it but bear it in mind in future! Family eh!

we've got no money left this month atall untill payday... as we had to pay for the car, the insurance, it was unexpected .

shes so selfish as if this is what we need right now... when were having a baby

Why not ring the dvla see if you have to pay at all? You could just wait until next month as you have the new keeper supplement so can tax it once on that if need be and have proof you are the new keeper-ask her for a receipt though!
