o/t: but this is why i dislike my MIL.......

It's £25 and takes 6 weeks as they contact the former keeper. Yes she is being stingy but I wouldn't get too wound up over it-you get a car out of it so it's best just to get on with it but bear it in mind in future! Family eh!

if we pay for it im not having nothing to do with her anymore.... its not a desision ive made lightly and not just because of this believe me!!!

we havent got any money till the end of the month to sort it and we've still got to get a few more bits for LO
shes seriously horrible :nope:

I live in the US! Is this like a title that Mindrin asked? If the car was in my parents name, I can put it on insurance in my name. The problem is the registration. Our cars are in my husbands name and that is what is on the titles, I am assuming the same as a log book. I cannot register any car. I live in FL and I have gotten tickets because I can't update the registration because the car is in DH name. That is another story. If you get into a wreck, it may affect your insurance but since the car is in her name, it will affect her as well and probably the money will have to come out of her pocket. I say it is better to not have to deal with family if she is bad as you say she is. In the end, she has the right to take back her car if she doesn't change it and you can be really screwed. Who knows, that may be her intention in the end. It sounds fishy to me that you paid her the money and the car is still in her name. That would be my biggest worry that she has the right to take back HER car!!! How does your OH feel about this?

my OH is really peed off aswell :nope:.

i know she would do somthing like that aswell... shes that sort of person

xx

Dvla will fine the registered keeper £50 if she fails to notify them she sold the car. Then she'll also be responsible for the £25 for the new one too. Maybe explain this to her and she might 'remember' where it was! :)

you will need to have the papers to mot and tax the car within the next year, so i would just apply for a new one, once it comes, get her to sign her bit and send off for it to be renewed in your name. believe me in a few months when the mot is up and you can't get her to do it quickly, you will regret it as you will have the car and it'll not be taxed, and thus not insured, so you can't drive it.

Its all taxed, MOT and insured to next year.... It will deffinatly be done by then, even if me and OH have to pay for it ourself we won't be able to do it till the end of this month :(, just hope we won't get into trouble as we have done everything our end all above board and properly, its just her that can't do the right thing :'( . Really makes me anoyed as she let's her daughter and her partner live there rent free they treat it like shit use them as baby sitters constantly... Me and OH pop round to see them and just get used to do a million errands etc and get treated like this it makes me so angry :(
