Another pointless thread, but I realized today...that I'm almost done!!! OMG I can't believe it. My original goal was to finish one before Peyton comes in January, but it looks like I'll be done before Christmas.

I started writing "After The Fountain" (this is a working title) in October...and had originally tried to write it in 30 days, but was unsuccessful. Luckily, I didn't give up and now things are looking really good for a finish early to mid December! I'm thinking it might go into the 100,000 words range, which is Amazing.

So jealous!

Well done! What an amazing achievement. I gave up on novel writing. I think I'll just be an article writer for the rest of my life :dohh:
:hugs:

Awwww don't give up! This is just my first draft, so the grammar and spelling are probably atrocious! I have been trying to finish a story period, since I was in middle school, so when I actually write THE END on this one...it will be quite the achievement :happydance:

I encourage you to never give up...I wanted to be published before I started a family, but that didn't happen, however my next goal is to be published before I turn 30...so I have three more years.

That's so cool! I posted earlier to say that I am passing the time by planning a book that I want to write ... Just got to get round to actually wirting it though! Actually, got 2 I want to do - one is a poetry book and is a workiing progress, the other one has hardly been started. Any tips?

I work as a writer so I'm -so- over it. maybe I should write something for fun lol.

I'm already published and things but a novel is just a whole different game baby

Ladies I know this is a little late but for next year, check out www.nanowrimo.org - they encourage you to write a novel of at least 50 000 words during November. The great thing about it is that you're not alone and the support on the website is amazing - they will NOT allow you to give up!

I've already finished two novels this way now all that's left is to start the terrible job of editing . . .

WooHoo!!!

Well done you!!!

When can we have a read?!

xx

OMG you go girl! My mother had a couple books of poetry published (independently) when I was a child. She was my inspiration to start writing at a very young age.

I don't know how useful my tips are, but here is what has finally worked for me...

  • Set a "daily" goal/and or word count & stick to it.
    a) Don't set your goal TOO high

This was a mistake I made when trying to finish this current novel in 30 days (last month). I was trying to reach an end result of 80,000 words by the end of the month:wacko:

    b) Don't set your daily goal to low
  • Establish Don't Look Back Syndrome (DLBS), this is more for writing a novel :) Just start writing, forget about correcting bad grammar or spelling, or anything else that will set you back from achieving your finish time goal.

This is the ONE thing that has prevented me from EVER finishing a story! I spend so much time going back and rewriting chapters before the story is even close to being done...then I get overwhelmed and give up.

  • Don't be afraid to break away from your outline(s).

I outlined an entire story chapter for chapter, it took three months. I thought it was absolutely perfect, but once I started actually writing...I realized that I used only certain elements from the outline. I learned that I am not a writer that can stick to a well planned outline. My novel just flows out of me and I write it down. I will admit that certain sections, if read right now, would not make sense because they conflict with other sections, but hey...thats what rewrites are for LOL.

My number one tip/word of advice is...Don't give up!

Good Luck!

Is there sex in it? WooHoo!

bwahahaha OF COURSE!

I'm not getting any in real life, so I made sure my main character has a few good romps with the sexy resident doctor!

sounds like a romance novel, but it's actually looking like it's more Science Fiction with a little bit of romance and erotica mixed in.

Yes I said Erotica

I love Nano! This was my first year joining, it has helped me with my current novel.

Well done hun, what's the novel about?

Well...

It started off as a YA novel about a girl who is searching for the truth about herself... she is voluntarily kidnapped by a stranger who knows more about her than she does.

However...

During the course of writing I realized I couldn't (or didn't want to) stick to YA guidelines, so my character was aged a bit and the story did not revolve so much around her searching for her family, etc... Instead it focuses on the fact that she is on the run and doesn't remember why?

Along with being an amnesiac, she has also lost all ability to feel pain and has become semi-crippled, which adds to her standoffish attitude.

She has dreams of a strange man, but does not remember who he is.

She strikes up a friendship with a handsome 3rd year resident British doctor, a relationship that was rocky at first.

The doctor is secretly sleeping one of the young female nurses. This nurse hates my MC (main character) and will do anything to prevent my MC from forming any type of relationship that goes beyond friendship with the doctor.

Strange things start happening the more time my MC spends with the doctor...she begins to think that he may hold the key to her past that she is looking for. She realizes that maybe the best thing for both of them is for her to leave and not look back.

The science fiction aspect is what I'm working on now...My MC will learn that she doesn't age and that there are others like her and also government type people who desperately want to find them...

As the title suggests these select few people, know the location of the Fountain of Youth...or at least where it used to be.

Edit: The Working Title is called "After The Fountain"
