OB won't see me until 14 weeks?

My first OB appt. is not until I am at 14 weeks. Apparently that is the norm with my dr. office. With my son I had an exam and early ultrasound at 9 weeks so we could see him on the screen. Well I live in a different city now and I am currently 9 weeks. I was really hoping for another early scan so I could see the heartbeat and relax a little, but I guess thats not the standard here.

Still...14 weeks seems extremely long to wait to have my first exam and hear the heartbeat. They also do not check Hcg levels at all unless there appears to be a problem so I have to wait another month just to put my mind at ease and know things are progressing normally. Its not that the dr. is booked either, the nurse told me he won't see patients until 14 weeks as a rule. Just was wondering if anyone had a similar situation? It seems nearly everyone at least has an exam done by 10 weeks so I am just a bit confused. Thanks!

It started off the same way for me. Doc only wanted to see me at 12 weeks. I ended up seeing him a bit earlier because I called and asked. When I was there he wanted me to do my first ultrasound at 13 weeks. I explained I was very anxious and having trouble sleeping and wanted to do a dating ultrasound. He told me the only way to do it was to book it privately. I did, and I was seen the next day. It cost about $100.00 but it really helped put my mind at ease. Saw my little bean and even heard baby's heartbeat. Also, I ended up measuring a week ahead of what I thought based on my LMP.

I hope they're able to see you sooner!

It's funny you started this thread I thought of starting one myself! With my first baby I was seen at 6 weeks and had a dating ultrasound done at 7 weeks. This time they said it was too early to see me and to call back when I'm 12 weeks. It's strange because I told them I wasn't really paying attention to my AF's so I'm not 100% sure how far along I am and she asked for my "best guess".. and the weirdest part is I'm using the same doctor.

I'm lucky though, my aunt is an ultrasound tech so I'm thinking of just going to her office and getting it done because I have no clue how far along I am!

Okay, so it isnt that weird then. It just was weird to me because I had so much prenatal care so early on with my first. But I did live in a bigger city then and I think they were more advanced with how they do things.

Now thats really odd you are having different outcomes but with the same doctor. Everyone stresses the importance of prenatal care, even early on, but I feel like my entire first trimester is being ignored except for taking my prenatal vitamin. The nurse did tell me though that they used to do a 12 week first exam, but switched to 14 weeks now because so many parents were freaking out because sometimes they couldn't pick up the heartbeat at 12 weeks. So, i guess i understand that as a precautionary measure. I guess I will just have to wait.

yeah I just had a mmc in March, had problems with progesterone, etc had an ultrasound every week from five weeks until heart stopped at 9 weeks. I thought for sure she'd book me right in again, nope! First us isn't until 10 weeks!!! I'm getting my first blood draw today though with the follow up next week so depending on what the numbers come back as, she may see me sooner, but that has yet to be determined!

Yeah I always hear about people getting scans at 8-9 weeks and am so jealous. I had to wait until almost 12 weeks to even hear my LO's HB and up until then I was freaking out. Heck I'm still freaking out that something is wrong even though nothing seems wrong xD and my next appointment isn't until almost 17 weeks and I still will not get a ultrasound. I have to wait until 20 weeks but since I go in every 4 weeks I'm sure they will make it 21 almost 22 weeks before I am seen again. Which is annoying. I'm going to get a private ultrasound done at 16 weeks (hopefully) to find out the gender early. Hoping my little one will cooperate with me and give us some good shots.
The only thing I can say is if they aren't like trying to see you urgently after they do your blood tests then thats a good sign, right? It means everything is looking good and doesn't concern them.

i dnt see ob/consultant till 16weeks. Seem mw when was 5weeks for booking. Norm first scans are at 12 week an i believe most places r same unless your under fertility treatment or theres medical reason for early scan. My first 2 pregs i had early scans at 7-9 weeks due severe abdo pain (suspected ectopic preg), this is my third preg 13weeks. Both prev pregs were in right place but i do understand your worry as i was to,

ohh this oreg i had first scan at 10+1 weeks (thought was 12weeks so got another on mon 13days after prev scan as they couldnt no nuchal thing) nxt scans 20weeks an next mw dunno lol havent seen since booking at 5weeks(thought 7weeks) for bloods an preg info an vitmins an my preg notes lol.
