OH fed Evelyn an old bottle. I pre make Evelyn’s bottles as she likes them cold due to teething. (Morning bottles in the morning, afternoon bottles in the afternoon, and 4am bottle right before bed. This using the same two bottles, Pink and Green. Never are there more then 2 bottles at a time in the refrigerator and they are always kept in the door to avoid things like this happening, or so I thought.) Sometimes there are two bottles + 1 sippy cup of water, as we are trying to get her to take a sippy.

This bottle that he gave her was Orange… I asked him if he made her one fresh and he said no it was in the fridge. I asked where he got it from and he said the main compartment. I was livid. Bad formula can kill babies. I only found this out (that he had fed her bad formula) after she had been very very fussy tonight and threw up on me 3x while we were waiting for her daddy to get out of the shower. (He fed her , fussiness began, he went to shower, she puked on me , we gave her a bath, she cried fussed the entire time, then I figured out he had fed her bad formula.) I have no idea where that bottle came from or how long it has been in the fridge. Unless he put it in there when he took the 430 feed Tuesday or Wednesday because I cleaned out the fridge on Monday and it wasn’t there. Didn’t notice it throughout the day(s) either so it must have gotten pushed behind something.

Formula is only good for 24 hours in the fridge. She has only drank from her green and pink bottles for the last couple of days. (I know I have been the one feeding her or the one giving husband the bottles if he happened to take her.)

Is there anything I should look out for? I suggested we should take her to the hospital. (because that is DANGEROUS!) But he insisted that she is fine, I had him feed her a bottle of fresh formula and she hasn’t thrown up again.

Any suggestions?

How old do you think it was hon? Can you keep her close by and just make sure that she doesnt seem unwell? xx

Oh dear the poor thing :( she must have felt rotten.

Are you able to call the hospital or a nurse on call to see what they say??

Ugh yuck!! I'd watch her closely and if she shows any signs of being sick take her to the hospital.

I don't know probably 2-3 days in the fridge,? Cleaned the fridge Monday and it wasn't there... Which is why it concerns me because we have been using pink and green bottles all week and all of a sudden there is this orange bottle from out of no where.

Do you have anything like NHS direct there, or a HV you can call?

I would honestly just keep a very close eye on her. I know it is old formula, and I think I would be worried to - but it is a one off, and the chances are very slim - I expect she will probably feel like she has a bit of a rotten belly, may give her the runs, but as long as she is still taking foods and isnt developing a temp or anything like that, her bodies immune system should fight any of the bad stuff off.

I know it isnt the same as such, but salmonella can kill, but rarely does these days. So just watch out for anything that doesnt look right for her - you know her best. If she is showing any signs of being poorly then give you doc a call or go to the hospital.

edit - hope I didnt sound heartless then - its horible to worry, also agree with another person about calling the formula careline - they should be able to give you plenty of advice.

Hope all is ok, we arent medical professionals so cant really offer the best advice so if you need that reassurance give your doctor a ring xx

Also, pehaps calle the care line telephone number on the formula. They are sure to have specific results and information available on situations like yours. If it was not there on Monday, say Tuesday feed at longest you can give them a timeframe and they possibly can help you with the affects the feed will have on LO?

All the best

Aww try not to worry too much, chances are if she has been sick its out of her system or most of it is. It was in the fridge but I understand why you would be so worried... :O( We had a mishap like this also so it does happen.. I feed LO in her room before bed and leave her bottle in her room incase she doesn't settle straight away.. I normally give her, her first bottle in our room on a morning.... and then on the trip down stairs bring down the bottles on a tray.. A few weeks ago I got my freshly made morning bottle mixed up with the one that I had given her the night before... I ended up giving her old milk that had been left out all night thinking it was her morning milk. Luckily she only drank about an ounce but was quite grumpy and fussy afterwards I felt terrible but it was a complete genuinine mistake... I wish I had thought to get different coloured bottles thats such a good idea... sORRY for the ramble, hope your LO is feeling okay and you are too :O) x

Thank you everyone! Our emergency department is pretty useless. Unless you are about to die (literally, like you have already stopped breathing.) it is pointless to go there. They just chalk everything up to being a new parent and basically tell us we are over reacting.

She did great through the night (I wound up checking on her VERY often last night, you would think we had a newborn in the house again. I was scared she might throw up in her sleep or something.) Today she took her morning bottle as always, nursed for ½ an hour! AND had her breakfast, and no more throwing up!

So I am guessing her immune system is strong enough to keep her from getting sick from it! Needless to say though I have set husband straight again on the proper bottle procedure so this sort of thing won't happen again.

Thank you for all of your wonderful advice ! I really appreciate it, It is horrible to worry.
