Hi ladies, I just posted this in first trimester aswell but I need advice!!

I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice/stories surrounding methotrexate and pregnancy...my partner is on it for artiritis and at his consultations they explained that he shouldn't have a baby whilst taking it- but didn't explain why.
I have just had a positive test after being very careful!(Obvs not careful enough!)
Anyway through some research of my own I have noticed it tends to be more of a concern when the female is taking it(high risks of spina bifda cleft palate etc) rather than the male. I did find another forum where ladies have said they had a perfectly healthy child after their partner was on it. But there's no clear indication of the effects from the male other than it effects mobility!
I went to my
I went to my GP today for advice as my partner thinks the best thing would be termination (he's worried with regards to advice from his consultant) but I don't want that if there's any reassurance that my baby will be healthy. The GP didn't have any answers and said I should speak to a specialist at the clinic

Does anyone know of anyone in the same situation or been in it themselves. Good outcome or bad.
I'm panicking here!!

Thanks x

I read up lots about methotrexate after my ectopic and basically, mtx may affect male sterility but often this is reversable. The good news is that there is very little evidence of adverse pregnancy effects if a baby is conceived whilst the male is taking a low dose mtx for arthritis.

Methotrexate basically destroys Folic acid & that is why, in large doses, can end a pregnancy which is ectopic. However, I had to be given a second dose as it was still not effective when given first time in a large dose (much larger than your husbands daily or weekly dose).

The best thing you can do is to get your folate levels measured now and if you aren't already - get downing the Folic acid tablets ASAP (your GP may advise higher dose than 400ug).

Here's a link which may help ease your mind

Good luck x
