Hi mums,

Any mums from Ontario, Canada??

From my other thread, as I was told from my last appointment that my baby is in a breech position. My ob said, in 2 weeks they will check it again... if baby still in breech then ecv (turning baby during an ultrasound) and if that doesn't work out, c-section.

I did my research and found that only %50 a baby can be turned during an ecv procedure?? The procedure sounds very painful :( I've read other reviews from other mums. I really don't want ecv. It just scares me.

I'm almost 36 weeks along. I don't want to stress out through my last few weeks here. I'd rather just have c-section and get it over with it.

I can still feel my baby's head up my chest. He doesn't seem to be moving down. It is quite painful too :( I'm already in pain here...with nerves & uncomfortable too.

They can't force me to have ecv?? Can they? Do I have an option here?? I want to call them tomorrow & let them know, that I don't want any ecv if my baby still in breech. I'd rather book my c-section.

I'm just scared that if I have to wait for turning baby around... my water might break & baby just come out in the wrong way :( I can't sleep now. I don't like to wait. I need to prepare myself here. I don't want an emergency c-section here. I just rather have it booked & prepare it.

Sorry for venting. I'm just stressed out now :(

Not sure about where you are but in UK they cannot make you have an ECV. Aside from emergency surgery, all medical interventions from taking blood pressure readings to ECV must be with consent of patient.

I work in a trauma ward some of the time and I amnt allowed to assess a patient without verbal consent after an informed discussion.

I am in Ontario (nice to see a fellow Canadian!).
I don't think your doc will make you do something that you are uncomfy with.
Just tell them your concerns and tell them you want a Csection... I highly doubt this will be a problem. Where in Ontario are you?

I am in PEI Canada and just found out t 37 wks I am breech. I was reading up on it and I too dont like the sound of it but I am scared of a c section ( I have a 2.5 yr old who i know will not understand why Mommy cant pick him up). Hope your baby turns on its own!!

I'm in the UK but I have said from the start that if my baby was ever in breech I would have a c-section and under no circumstances would I ever have the EVC i do not think the success rate is high enough but the main reason is I think the risks of it are not worth it.

I am not sure how it works there but surely you will have the choice not to have the EVC!

I'm in Toronto, Ontario and I dont think they can force you into anything, make it clear to your DR, that you dont want a ECV and you want a planned c-section and you want to schedule a date as soon as possible. gl hun

I don't believe they can force you in to an ECV, but have you checked out other ways to get baby to turn? Lots of good resources here: https://www.spinningbabies.com/

I mentioned yesterday that I was going in for ECV today at 37w as my baby is breech too. I was scared and had heard the horror stories too but decided to give it a try. Turns out after getting fully prepped with injections, hour of monitoring, prep in case of section etc, that I shouldn't have been booked in for it as my amniotic fluid levels were quite a bit below the cut off. They also discovered my placenta had started to calcify and that baby was very small.

Since I was prepped anyway and had 4 consultants and 3 midwives in the room, they asked to try anyway. Don't want to scare anyone (but please remember I was not a good candidate with my issues and I was warned success may be very limited), but it was really horrible and I went into shock and started getting very distressed as I could feel myself blacking out. They were concerned it would put baby into distress too so they stopped.

They've decided it's too dangerous to let me go much further with my pregnancy due to a combination of my issues, do I'm in for a section on fri.

They did ask for permission at every step of the way and were amazing at explaining things to me. Good luck!

I'm in Australia but I'm pretty sure they can't force you do have it done... My baby girl is breech but I'm only 34 weeks so still have time but if she's still breech nearer to the date I'd be refusing to have it done... So many ladies I know had it done and said their baby just went back like a rubber band, so for all that pain 50% success doesn't sound great to me.... I'm terrified of having a c section but I think I'd be opting out of the ecv because if it doesn't work your left with a c section anyways!

Good luck to you xxxx

I am in the US so I don't know specifically about your healthcare but they should never be able to make you do anything you don't want to, especially something that is controversial like that. I hope your baby either flips on its own or you get your c-section.

@ labellavita81, I live in the GTA area :)

Thank you ladies <3 I'm ringing up my doctor's office today, to let them know that I don't want any ecv but have my C-section booked (just incase, if my baby still is in a breech position). I can still feel his head up :( The success rate is 50-50? I don't trust it.

To be honest a 50% chance of not getting a CS sounds well worth it to me, although I know there are some risks involved so I'd want to look into that first. Anyone has the right to refuse any medical procedure they want to though, it's basic human rights. If you don't want it done you can just refuse but I think the doctors will be understanding.

hi im in Ontario as well. had an ECV at 37 weeks, it wasn't painful at all, just felt squished. it honestly took maybe 2 minutes and she was turned. I didn't read up online beforehand as I know that it can be bad I just took my OB's word for it that the risks are smaller than that of a section, and that he personally had never had an emergency situation with it. didn't see a point in scaring myself by looking for horror stories when I knew I wanted to go through with it anyways. after it was over he said that mine was the easiest turn he's had, everything was just favorable with the fact that I have a long torso, the baby was the right size, etc etc all the stars were aligned for it to work as he had done 4 already that week that were unsuccessful. so in my case I would strongly recommend trying it, but someone else who had a poor experience with it wouldn't, its really up to you to talk with your doctor and see what you want to do. they definitely CANNOT force you to try it. you can book a section im sure and then if the baby turns on its own before term they would cancel the section and let you labor naturally. good luck on whatever you decide!!!

:hugs::hugs:

If I were you, I'd try exercises from spinningbabies.com, acupuncture, reflexology, hypnotherapy, etc. In my hypnotherapy book, they mention a study on 100 women with breech babies who did hpnotherapy and the success rate was 81%. And it's painless, so I would totally go for it.

I'm in the US, but I agree that they can't force you to do something you're uncomfortable with. That procedure is optional and really can't be forced.

Also, I want to let you know that my first baby turned at 40 weeks and the baby I'm carrying now just turned within the last couple weeks (I'm 37+1). So there is always hope that baby will turn and you won't need a c-section at all. I needed one both times for other reasons. But babies can turn all the way up to birth time!
