I'll try and keep this as brief and understandable as I can!!!

A few weeks ago Morgan was having a good 6-7oz, 5 times a day (she's exc. FF on SMA Gold) then all of a sudden she dropped down to almost half that for the last couple of weeks. Somehow, though, she was still managing to gain some weight???!

She's always gone every 3.5-4 hours between feeds since she was born (that's the rhythm she found herself!).

Well, last weekend I thought I'd try the level 2 teats (for 3m+) to see if that would help her feeding. She kept choking a lot for the first couple of days but then seemed to settle on them pretty well and was starting to take a bit more milk again (5-6oz).

But she has been getting quite unsettled of a night and waking up 2,3,4 times, not for food particularly, as she would have a dummy and go back off for a bit.

So I had a chat with my OH, and we thought we would give the SMA White (hungry baby) a try to see if it would satisfy her a bit more...

I tried her with a carton on Weds night and she took about 6oz and seemed reasonably settled through the night, only waking up the once. No sickness or any noticable problems with it, so we decided to buy a tin of it when we went shopping Thursday night.

So today she's had every bottle made up with SMA White... and I swear to God it's made her hungrier?!!!?!??!!?!!?!??!?! :dohh:

8.30am - 6oz
11.30am - 8oz
2.30pm - 7oz
5.20pm - 9oz!!!!!!!!

She was even struggling to go 3 hours between feeds... twice we had to try and hold her out til at least get to 3 hours!

I cannot get my head round today at all.... she's had more milk today than she has ever done before... having her bottles closer together today than ever before..... all on the milk that's supposed to make her feel fuller for longer?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

WTF is going on?!?!?!?!?!?!

Anyone?!?!?!?!?!

oh thats not good, its funny cause i BF jack but i also give him aptamil for hungry baby and when i do he can only go a couple of hours, so i find it the same as you, the only good thing about it is he sleep most the night on it, butother than that cant give much advice i just know how u feel

I also found that when we gave our LO SMA hungry baby milk she would only make it 3 hours between feeds when she goes at least 4 hours when on SMA Gold. We gave up with it pretty quickly!

Thanks girls... at least I know it's not just Morgan being awkward!!

I just can't get my head round how she's seems MORE hungry on it... surely it's supposed to make her feel LESS hungry?!?!
:baby:

I think, from personal experience with hungry baby milk, that they're unsure about it so they're worried. Just like when they're newborn and don't know when their next feed is coming? Does that make sense? She would probably settle on it after a few days.

Thanks Toria, that makes sense actually... was planning on giving it a fair few days to see how she got on.

Was also wondering whether she could be hitting that 4-month growth spurt, and it's just coincidence that it's happened the same day as we changed her milk?

Yeah, could be that too. Whatever it is, she wouldn't have it if she didn't need it x

I had the exact same problem with my lo she was on sma gold and going 3 maybe 4 hours and taking 4oz but put her on white and she would only go 2.5 hours and take 5/6 oz. I had to change her to aptamil though due to bad bowel movements but decided agaist using the hungry baby stuff n now she taking 5 every 3/4 hours and sleeping for 5/6 hours at night :D:D:D

I’m glad I found this as Gabbi’s routine, if you could call it that, has changed over the last couple days. Started keeping her upright for 30 mins after each feed as we think she has been suffering from reflux.

Tabs, could it be her body adjusting to the new formula?? I’m with you, very baffling, as Gabbi could go most of the time for 4 hours between feeds and only now and again 3 – 31/2 hours. I’m gonna keep watching your thread, could help me out, I’m sorry I can’t help you.

I have been told she is eating too much, but looking at what Morgan is on, I don’t think she’s over fed at all. She’s on Frisolac for up to 6 months.

She can normally have 5 feeds during the day, made up of 150 ml (approx. 5.3 oz), then during the night varies between 60 and 120 ml depending on how she feels (2oz – 4ish). BUT, the last couple of nights, she’s woken twice, hungry and yesterday, in total (during a 24 hour period), she had 940 ml!!!!! Approx. 33 oz. I mean, that’s just ridiculous isn’t it??!! She’s only 2 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now she taking 5 every 3/4 hours and sleeping for 5/6 hours at night :D:D:D
How lucky are you!!!!! I’ve had her sleep for 5 ¼ hours but that was from 9.30pm so not through the night!!! Gave me hope, but that’s been dashed now lol

Well, she had a very restless night last night... was wriggling around and kept waking up, but would drift off as soon as she had her dummy (so I knew she wasn't hungry!). I think I got about 1.5 hours sleep!!! :dohh:

Today, she's been a lot better... not screaming hungry all the time, and pretty much back to her 3.5-4 hours, but still having a good 7-8oz each bottle! She's been in a much better mood too!

So let's hope yesterday was just her getting used to the milk, and that she has a better night tonight!!

Thanks for everyone's advice yesterday... I was surprised how much I got stressed about it!!

That was my thinking. I know that sometimes Hannah eats 5-6 ounces every meal and than we'll go a few weeks with her eating 4-5 yet she still gains weight.
