Been talking with hubby re: damian and it looks like its pretty much a no go. There are two choices, but they are very different.

The first:

Saul Nealan Williams (saul is pronounced sol, but is not short for anything, its hebrew)

Nealan Ellis Williams (nealan is gaelic, baby will be scottish, and neil is my dads name...but...I wouldnt want anyone to shorten nealan to neal...which they will do.)

so go for it, what are your reactions...honest opinions please, no fluffy bunnies!

I like them both but if you don't want Neal I wouldn't go for Nealan as the first name. If you like Damian but it's a definite no-go, how about Dorian?

I suggested that but husband doesnt like it. He suggested damon, but I dont like it. This is the only time we have ever struggled over a name, our other three we were so certain on!

I agree if you dont want it shortened to use the first choice of Saul Nealan, it will get shortened for sure if you use it as a first name. My daughters name is Kaitlin and Im not one of those ones who likes their name shortened and she always gets Kate! Either way they are both lovley names for your boy!:hugs:

I love Saul and I love Nealan- I think Nealan is short enough that it would not get shortened to Neil - and if anyone tries just say no he goes by his full name- I had to do this with Jacob, my oldest- some people tried to call him Jake- I just corrected and now if anyone tries he just tells them he goes by Jacob, now the reason my children all have names shorter than 5 letters!

I love them both, but agree that Nealan will probably be shortened to Neal so I'd keep that as the middle name.

Great names!

Wow I am so pleased the names are liked so far, I had visions of people saying...you want to call your baby WHAT?! I really wanted different names, but nothing with bizarre spellings or strange pronunciations. I think we are definitely swinging towards Saul Nealan, thanks ladies :D

I agree with all of above. I think people would definately shorten Nealan to Neal!

Saul Nealan is a very funky name :) i liiiiike it
xxx

I like Saul. There was a character called that in a film (While You Were Sleeping) so I don't find it odd. It is rare though - I've never come across a 'real' person called it.

I think we are pretty settled on Saul Nealan ladies, thanks so much for all your opinions!

Guess i'm the odd-ball out... i much prefer Nealon Ellis!

I think out of the 2 i would go for Sau,l Nealan i love the meaning behind it being scottish myself but when i say it, It just reminds me of kneeling like kneeling down but maybe im pronouncing it wrong i guess it would be different if it was pronounced neal- An ...also agree it would more than likely be shorted to neal as he gets older by his friends and stuff but then this happens with alot of names

xx
