Can we use olbas oil? The packet says not to use un essential medicine, but i never thought of it as a medicine, the pharmacist says it's fine but now i'm reading other things and i'm really worried. I have been sniffing it off a tissue for the last few hours, as i have a cold :dohh:

hi daisyduke, i googled and found this answer. i wouldnt worry too much as they tell you to avoid all sorts of things in pregnancy when our mothers and grandmothers would have used them without even knowing there might be a problem. xx

Q Can Olbas oil or Vicks be used in pregnancy?
A Certain oils should be avoided in pregnancy, and this applies to all three of the oils in these decongestants (juniper oil, eucalyptus oil, and oil of pine needles). The fact is that all we know is that these oils may cause problems during pregnancy, and we don't know to what extent they could be used without causing problems. Obviously using a few drops on a tissue would be less likely to cause problems than having a full body massage with the oil, or using it regularly for inhalation. The safest thing to do is to avoid these oils completely in pregnancy.

Thanks i guess i'll leave the olbas oil well alone and hope that i didn't use enough to cause any problems :dohh: is there anything we can take to help with a cold?

nope, i had the cold couple weeks ago, i can only suggest honey & lemon drinks and warm baths and early nights. you can take paracetemol but obviously not too many. i hope you feel better soon! :hugs: x

i wish, i have got a stinking cold, all we can take is paracetamol, for what use that is!!! i am just gonna snuggle up with a hot drink, and have an early night i think, hopefully wake up feelin better in the morn x

It stinks doesn't it tbh it's taken me so long to get here i'm scared to even take paracetamol :dohh: so i'm just putting up with this headache, i hope we all feel better soon :hugs:

Oh one other thing baths, should they not be to hot, sorry i'm so new to this and i have no idea what i can and cant do or have, my dr told me nothing?

ohhh i am gonna have a relaxing soak in the bath aswell, that usually helps to unblock my sinus's aswell, which i would think would help ease your headache x

great minds n all that lol, not too hot, i think its to do with you not getting too hot and passing out, but what do i know lol i am no professional, i like my bath pretty hot though x

Thanks i love hot baths, so a hot bath wont harm my baby just me?

i love hot baths too, ive cooled them down a little bit since being pregnant because little bubs doesnt like us to get too hot. x

like i said i am no expert but yeah i'm pretty sure its just to do with the mum over heating and feeling faint passin out etc, i will double check and look it up though just to make sure, i wouldnt wana be held responsible or anything lol x brb

Now i have read conflicting things thanks to google on baths, i feel like nothing is 100% safe anymore. I'm so scared of loosing my little bean  Sorry girls i'm being such a moaner.

as far as i can find a hot bath is fine as long as its not too hot, and for the reasons i said passing out etc hope that helps x

i think we need to be wrapped up in cotton wool now we are pregnant! i was pg earlier in the year but mc and i remember having really bad hayfever but couldnt take anything for that either. i think we just have to put up with the problems (colds, aches & pains)along the way and enjoy being pregnant. ive had sciatica this week and normally i would dose my self up with anti-inflamatory tablets but i could only take paracetemol. xx

have you got a date for your scan yet? whens you little baby due? x

No i have nothing it was only confirmed on friday and the dr i saw was useless, he just said to book to see the midwife between week 6-8 didnt tell me what i should avoid nothing.

my doc didnt even want to see me and i didnt see mw until 11w. atleast theres all the ladies on here that will answer any questions and am sure give better advice than a doctor! x
