It's a rainy, cold day here in Texas, so my husband and I have not ventured out of the house. I got the jonesing to try one of those Intelligender tests, but those things are $40, and I think they're probably just as accurate as guessing. Instead, we decided to do some old wives' tale gender prediction tests. I've spent all afternoon peeing on things.
First thing we looked at was Babycenter's Chinese Gender Chart. Prediction: girl.
Then, we did the baking soda test. You put about two tablespoons baking soda, then add urine. If it "fizzles like beer" you've got a boy. We did that, and definitely no fizzle. We had some bubbles, but nothing like a beer. I'd also read that you have to stir it, so we stirred. Still no fizzle. Prediction: girl.
Then we tried the ring test. You tie your wedding ring to a string or a piece of hair (we went with string), then dangle it over mommy-to-be's wrist or belly. If it swings back and forth like a pendulum, you've got a boy. Circles mean a girl. We did wrist and belly, and both made circles. Prediction: girl.
Then we tried the red cabbage test. Basically, you steep chunks of red cabbage in boiling water for about 10 minutes, until you have a blueish liquid. Then you strain the cabbage out, keeping the liquid, and mix urine and cabbage water in a one-to-one ratio (roughly). If it turns pink, boy. If it turns purple, girl. Turned dark purple immediately, and stayed that way. Prediction: girl.
Obviously you can't put a lot of stock in these things, but it was a fun way to spend an afternoon. So far, everything says girl, so we'll see in another few weeks! (I've had a feeling it was a girl all along!)
