Oligohydramnios/leaking amniotic fluid?

I'm in the process of trying to get someone to take me to bridgend hospital. Finally got through to someone sensible. I'm off to day assessment for them to do a test. Thanks girls :flower:

Don't have experience of what you are going through, but just wanted you to know I am praying and thinking of you and your little one. :hugs: Best of luck hun, keep us posted.

I hope everything goes well for you! I didn't have a leak, but I did have a fairly low reading of amniotic fluid 2 weeks ago (they didn't say the number at the time). Was told to drink lots of water/other fluids (like 2 liters/day) and was rescanned earlier this week. My levels are back up in the good zone (9.7 cm). Again, it's different since I wasn't diagnosed with a leak, but I'd think drinking lots would help in any case.

:hugs::hugs: Hope you get to the hospital ok,its a nightmare when its so far away.Thinking of you

I didnt want to r&r cos I know that is upsetting you, but at the same time I dont wanna scare you. I know you recently read my story so I dont need to go into it, but am sorry if reading that scared you hun :hugs::hugs:

Whether or not your cervix is long and closed, you absolutely need antibiotics, so really push for them sweetie. Also as a previous poster said no sex, baths or swimming.

I know lots and lots about the guidelines now, so if there is anything specific you ever want answered then just drop me a message :hugs::hugs:

Tasha you didn't scare me hun, you kick started me into pushing for more care :hugs:

I've not long got home from the labour ward... AND I AM NOT LEAKING AMNIOTIC FLUID!

I am leaking some sort of fluid mixed with discharge. My cervix is a bit different to normal. Something to do with the cells but puberty, birth control etc. can do that and it's nothing to worry about.

They have sent my urine off for testing as they think I have a viral infection which explains the head cold. If so I will be given anti biotics

They got me a doppler and I heard Thomas's heartbeat :cloud9: he got fed up of it in the end and tried to kick it off

They are sending me for a gtt in May though. My father has type one diabetes, plus I've had some fainting spells lately and the only thing that perked me up was lucozade so they want to see if I have diabetes. They did my blood sugars there which were 4.4, normal, so hopefully it's ok.

My blood pressure was low on admission so I had to stay and be monitored but it's ok now so I've been 'let out'

They fed me up, made sure I didn't move about much and were generally wonderful. If I have to give birth there I will be happy.

So so very happy thank you everyone. I am finally getting there

Fantastic that you are not leaking waters, so relieved for you :hugs: I am glad you are pushing for better care sweetie, because we know our bodies better than anyone, so need to trust our instincts.

I also have to have a GTT cos my dad has diabetes.

Oh and happy 20 weeks :flower:

Thank you hun, think you're about 20+2 now aren't you? :hugs: diabetes suck, hope we don't have it!! X

Had to think what day it was before I could answer :haha: Yep, 20+2.

Have they told you a care plan hun, like are you being seen/scanned every x amount of time?

The most important thing is to have at least 2cm of liquid (and no infection of course). There are studies about it (on the web also).
As I told you in another thread, I had a PPROM at 18 with my first pregnancy but I had no liquid, so I studied the patology after.

Thank you mafalda :hugs:

Well I'm back in fetal medicine on Monday having my anomaly scan. My consultant in NPTH said I'll be closely monitored, so I would assume I'm probs due to have more scans

Thank you! I feel much more relaxed now, hopefully the rest of the pregnancy will be fine xx

i am SOOOOO glad that you are getting some answers! i was going to ask if they were SURE it was amniotic fluid, as i read over and over there is no smell to that and you mentioned an ammonia type smell.

so glad someone caught this :)

I have to say I think amniotic smells slightly different for everyone, one of the girls on here said hers smelt like sperm, mine which was leaking/gushing for eight weeks (it was confirmed by a swab test that changes colour, it was seen on scans and also confirmed when she grew her wings eight weeks later when there was a post mortem) smelt really sweet. I have friends say bleach, no smell, all sorts :flower:

I guess the thing to take away is if you feel abnormally wet or can feel yourself trickling get seen!!

Was so glad when they did the swab and they told me it was fine, massive sigh of relief :)
