*UPDATE*

I called the HV yesterday (god, I love her so much) who told me I needed to ring the GP and in order to get an appointment that day "lay it on really thick, and dont let them fob you off with a nurse. Say that baby isn't feeding well and you are in agony and considering giving up BFing" even though none of that is true! So we got some daktarin 2% oral gel for her and some daktarin 2% cream for me which I have to wipe off before feeding.
My god, she LOVES her gel, i think its cos its very sweet and orangy - licking her little lips with her eyes wide open looking at me!

She had 3 applications before she went to sleep last night after a good cluster feed (and her tongue was looking much much less white) at 7:30 and slept through until 11:45, had a feed and change and slept from 8 minutes past midnight right through til 6:30 this morning!!!:cloud9:

I was happy until I realised that she was probably waking up in pain for the past dew nights with the thrush, or unable to feed properly because of it and waking up hungry. My poor likkle princess.

Cross your fingers this is the start of things to come!

I posted a couple of days ago about Olivia possibly having thrush in her mouth. Her tongue is covered in white, but I wasn't sure if it was just milk from feeding.

All night I was getting these stabby shooting pains in my boobs, and I was convinced I had blocked ducts so I was massaging as I fed her. This morning I woke up and there is this AWFUL red nappy type rash around my nipples on the areola  and its SORE as anything.

Every time she latches on I get this awful, agonising pain for about a minute then it settles slightly.

Today, she hasn't been feeding very well, nipping on and off the boob for quick drinks, and when she is there she looks really uncomfortable. She has also been 'tasting' her mouth...like sort of grizzly faced and opening and closing her mouth.

Im pretty sure it's down to the fact that I was on heavy duty antibiotics after having her cos of a third degree tear, and also this hot weather along with having to wear breast pads and a bra all the time makes conditions perfect for thrush doesn't it?

Now I have realised, I'm going to ring HV and go to the doctors straight away tomorrow, but everything I have read suggests it gets worse before it gets better :hissy: I should have trusted my instincts on Monday and got an appointment then before my boobs got so badly infected.

I'm in agony, but I really feel for my poor little princess

 Me and Olivia got this quite early on with bf and it took a while to clear. The dr prescribed daktarin which is an oral gel that I used on my nips before a feed and on Olivias tongue as well.

The hv also advised that I let my boobs get as much fresh air as poss (not always easy I know) so after a bath or shower I used to go bra-less until Olivias next feed xxx

Mine took a while to clear too, and yes, it got worse before it got better :hugs: but it does get better :( x

Hope it gets better soon. Make sure they treat both of you - for some reason so many doctors will only prescribe something for you, which isn't going to help if she has it (if it's thrush the white stuff on her tongue won't wipe off, but it will if it's from milk).

The oral gel and topical creams that you just put on your nipples really don't work well to clear it up, as the thrush gets right inside the milk ducts, so if you can get a course of fluconazole tablets to take x

i have this too - just got diagnosed yesterday! it's horrible and i am feeling your pain. i have an oral gel for my baby and daktarin for my nipples, as well as a course of fluconazole. praying it;s going to work. started with it last night - no improvement so far. does anyone know how long it will take?

wow, the gel etc seems to be working really well for you. i wonder if i am using enough? still don't feel like i'm seeing much difference.

Hun, you are not a bad mommy, you can't know everything to start out with. You are getting both of you treated. It is soo hard to figure out what to do when you first have your little one. I was sooo freaking clueless.
