Omg, omg, omg!!!!! UPDATE pg 5

Good to hear you might finally get some answers. I was very interested to read your thread - thank you :hugs:. I'm hypothyroid and was shocked at how LITLLE my gp knew about hypothyroidism and pregnancy (he initially told me to stop taking my thyroxine when I got preg!!! :hissy:). Have seen a consultant at the hospital this morning (only because I pushed the issue) - and I'm so glad - my dose was wrong, etc. He's said he needs to keep an eye on me and I feel so reassured that FINALLY someone is listening and someone has answers.

I suspected I may be deficient in calcium for a different reason, because I'm dairy/lactose intolerant, so have less calcium in my diet than Joe Average. I asked my MW if I needed to take a supplement and she shrugged it off, saying I prob didn't need it. :hissy:

Maybe it's like locking the door after the horse has bolted, but I'm starting taking calcium tablets immediately so that if I am lucky enough to get preg again then I know I'm doing all I can for my LO.

Thanks again:hugs:

So glad you are getting this looked into! :hugs:

I seriously think that women who have miscarriages should have their thyroid levels checked (I know you have another situation going on) because it's amazing what the thyroid gland does in your body, and that includes a viable pregnancy.

My first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage and my doctor, thank goodness he's a wonderful one, had my thyroid tested and I was borderline underactive. He put me on thyroid pills and I've had no problems with pregnancies since.

So for those ladies who are experiencing miscarriages, do ask your doctor to check your thyroid levels.

Haven't been on here a while. So glad you managed to at least get your bloods tested again for something that probably should have been thought about before.

I've been lucky really. Before I went on holiday last week I got loads of blood taken, 6 tubes of the stuff so my doc is taking things seriously - even the nurse couldn't believe how much was being taken ha ha. Bit nervous but excited about the results in a way. At least we can maybe rule things out at least? Good luck x

EXACTLY, he knew my medical history with having no thyroid :hissy:

Hope you get your answers Mrs with the bloods.

OMG, your GP sounds CRAZY! Can't believe he told you to stop taking them, what a bloody MUPPET!

When I had my thyroid removed they removed (accidently but common) the parathyroid glands, they're 4 tiny glands the size of rice behind the thyroid. I'm telling you I can't believe how much damage they can do to your body. I'm back on mega calcium tablets 2 X 1000mg of sandacol a day. I didn't get my bloods checked on the day of my appointment, she was running 50 mins late and I had to leave to get to the hairdressers  So I'm going on friday morning and will have a better idea early next week.

XXXX

ps I would take the supplements if I were you!

I totally agree with you 100 % on this.

It controls so much of your body it's unbelievable.

Good luck on Friday and hope it's positive news x :hugs:

And yes...my gp's a proper muppet...I wasn't even on the correct dosage, as I found out yesterday! :hissy:

Well girls just to update you!

Went and seen my Thyroid Surgeon followed by a whole load of bloods, from calcium to thyroid cancer (even though it's been removed). She called on friday!

The results are in:

Thyroid is showing "toxic" (as she puts it) and Calium was low :hissy: RAGIN.COM that the gyn consultant says it was down to bad luck when infact this looks like this is problem. I'm going to see a thyroid specialist on the 6th April :happydance: and my surgeon has assured me this can be sorted!

So girls, 4 MC's and I have an answer, which was persued off my own back. So DON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER, listen to your own body!

OMG! I bet you're torn... between feeling REALLY pissed off that they never picked this up before, and have let you go through 4 mc's, and the fact that you can now move on, and hopefully have a successful pregnancy :muaha: !

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed now, that you get some decent care, and can go on and get another BFP!

It's so crap this has happened, but at least you have some answers now. Not long til 6th April...and well done for standing your ground.

Good luck hun :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

EXACTLY, they knew my medical history at the EPU, he was just matter of fact "it's down to bad luck"

How's things with you? Did you get your thyroid medication sorted?

That's great news. So hopefully all will be sorted for you and your next pregnancy xxx

REading your thread has made me really cross. I feel fortunate that have only suffered 1 mc and have had 1 sucessful preg, but a couple of my friends have had 3 and have no help or investigations at all. 1 of them is now 41 and her time is running out. It makes me cross that mcs are dismissed as "things that jsut happen" when actually sometimes, who knows how often, they bloody well aren't (oh dear I'm ranting now). But really!!! Another friend had investigations after 3rd mc at 13weeks and discovered that she had a weakness, I think in her cervix, that meant it couldn't sustain the weight of baby once got to certain size. SO why are my other friends and so many other women being told to "just keep trying" and hope that they'll be lucky this time????!!!! Ok 1 mc is painful but might be just bad luck, 2... worse... 3..4, there must be a reason!!!! Are we being fobbed of because actually most GPs and MWs don't know enough about the subject or is there genuine research to suggest that no reason can be found. If it's the first, there must be a place for specialist mc investigation centres??? Am I being idealistic, unrealistic?
Anyway, thanks for the tip re calciumm and thyroid, I will pass it on to my friends and think about it for my next try too. Good luck

Very True. My gyn had done all the tests, which were negative, so his exact words were "bad luck and on the plus side you aren't 42". WTF I'm 38 and can't handle anymore mental pain. That was it, no further testing blah blah blah, I done this all off my own back.

Some GP's and MW's fob you off, not all!

hope your friends get the answers too!

:hugs:

 YOU!!!! found the answers...proud of you!! i agreee go with your gut and do persue what otherss will not ...brilliant hun:hugs:

I am so happy that you have hopefully found some answers to all your pain. Got me thinking about what happened in my pg with my son.

As you stated in you 1st post, that your face went numb as well as part of your hands. When I was pregnant with my son who is 6 now(will be 7 in June) I got these episodes (that's what I called them).
I would get spots in my eyes and all of the sudden my hands would go numb and then it would slowly work itself into my face, just one side of my face. It was the scariest feeling I have ever felt. I called my DR and he would tell me that my son was sitting on a nerve. Well as the pg progressed they would get worse and start coming more frequently. In my 8 month of the pg I started to get bad headaches with the numbness and everyone kept telling me it was a nerve or stress induced.
So they took me out of work but it didn't go away. Once he was born it went away and my son and myself was fine. But I did go on to have a MMC @ almost 20 weeks gestation with my last pg wonder if this has anything to do with that or not?
Very strange, thanks for the post.

WELL that's another story, I've put on two stone since having mine removed :hissy: which was a good thing as I was so skinny in the first place, however, I'm now taking tablets called Hoodia 700 (okay'd by my surgeon), lost 7 ilb in two weeks :happydance:

Keep me posted on your results Mrs.

I think some of the time saying 'it's bad luck' is just easier than the alternative of investigating the problem. And investigations are, of course, much more expensive (says schmelly-the-cynic!). :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

I think my meds are sorted now, though have to wait until 6 weeks after mc before they'll check my blood again, as preg messes everything up. Will go prob 2nd or 3rd week in April, then have my follow-up appt with consultant on 5th May. :happydance:

PS...Omi, yes thyroxine often makes you lose weight, but only if your weight is as a result of your underactive thyroid. Not all hypothyroid people are affected with their weight, though it is a common symptom. :hugs:

I feel like they should take each case individually and not lump us all in the same category AND they should be just as concerned if not more about our health, they are the professionals. I'm 2 m/c in, and most tests have come back negative and my dr still gives me the same generic answers, but i'm trying to be patient, and gather my own info so I can go get more help. The one thing I can say is she is open to if I request further tests. I plan to see a specialist if this cycle doesn't amount to good news. And she did give me more info for that.

Just wanted to update you on my apmt this friday. Not good. I had one of those medical a***h***s who dont read or just cant be bothered to follow commonly agreed studies/guidelines.

Ok, so it turns out i have subclinical thyroid disease but ive done my research and indeed my pre conception specialist said that is the problem and she only has 40 years experience. Anyway, that young guy (not the head of the clinic that i was supposed to see) tells me straight of the bat that its not proven that going on meds has any beneficial effects on getting pg ( i dont know if he read my file, i dont have any probs getting pg).I know however, it does help , according to the literature etc, and certainly does no harm to women ttc or/ and are pregnant, as most people with subclinical thyroid disease get the full disease in time.

What an idiot! He really upset me and i felt like there was no hope as i left..the negativity he exuded was terrible for anyone in my situation - to anyone, im sure!! You know the type.. 'oh, so you've had 2 losses..im sorry...' (sounding like he's sorry he has to say it, you know....booooring.. as opposed to any empathy or actual concern for me- what a c**k :))

Anyway, he took another bloodtest to check my levels again..my tsh was 7 last time, t3 and t4 are normal- hence the diagnosis. If they havent dropped, he has, benevolently, agreed to put me on meds.

I have emailed my specialist and told her of his negativity, scepticism etc.

The good news, i guess, is that i should be able to go back to ttc sooner rather than later..May even :)

Sorry for the rant, girls...

, Omi xxx
