it was the first time we have been out when joshua needed a feed.

we went to town today and i knew joshua would be due a feed but wasnt gonna sit in all day just coz he would need a feed.

so he woke up for a feed so we found a bench to sit on so i could feed him.

i couldnt believe how many stares i got and people walking past looking.
it mad me feel so uneasy.

the mad thing about it is that im bottle feeding so surly there shouldnt be anything wrong with feeding my baby in public.

i do really feel for all you mummys out there that breast feed.
when people stare when i bottle feed wht will they be like when someones breast feeding

sorry abit of a rant but it really annoyed me and made me feel so uneasy and all i was doing was feeding my baby

I fed Kalea in town the other day, center of shopping mall to be exact and I saw people looking too and I think it was purely because it was a baby, not because I was feeding her. Maybe it's just your confidence at the moment hun.

But I would re-word what you wrote, breast feeding shouldn't be frowned upon in public either and I thought that was supposed to be improved these days.

I agree with that - people always used to stare at me when I was out with Sam (sometimes I take bottles of expressed milk and sometimes I breastfeed him) and there would always be people looking which made me feel really uneasy. I almost felt as if they were looking down on me (I have no idea why), but I think they do just look at babies, whatever they're doing - I know I do if I see someone carrying a baby or with a baby in a pram (although it always makes me smile to see them so I hope I don't make anyone feel uneasy!) x

I found myself staring at other mothers though when I was trying for a baby, wasn't jealousy or anything and I didn't realise I was doing it, but I just love looking at babies, they're beautiful little things.

I think I probably did too without realising...babies, pregnant women :D x

I agree, i always have a quick nosey at babies, i can't help it. I don't think they were looking because you were feeding, they were probably looking because he's gorgous :hugs:

I know my brother feels like everyones watching him when he's doing something for his son because he's a first time dad.

I wouldn't worry about it hun. People understand babies need fed at the most annoying moments!

this happened to me when I was bottle feeding in town too. It made me feel like I should be locking myself up in a toilet to feed him. It makes me even more reluctant to breastfeed in town. Know it's just paranoia but it doesn't feel great to be stared at when you're a new inexperienced Mum!

This happened to us too, I dont care now but that first tme I actually felt embarassed about feeding her, until she chucked up on someones shoes as they slowed down for a nose!!!!

i dont disagree with breast feeding,i was just saying that i wouldnt like to be breast feeding if i was getting looked at at bottle feeding.

i do really hate when people stare though, yeah they might be just looking at baby but it feels like they are judging me.
maybe just hormones or something.

ive always looked well tried to look at babies in prams and such but i didnt realise it felt like that though

I don't feel like that now. I can't remember if I did when I was out with Mikey, maybe I feel subconsciously more confident as I've done it once before already.

Don't worry hun, no ones judging you, they're just looking at your gawwwjus boy!

totally agree with you.
i have had to feed a few times in public as i refuse to permanently stay indoors!!!
i get stares when he starts screaming for his milk and even more stares when i whip out the bottle - it does surprise me as he is a baby after all so i don't know what people are expecting as a baby = screams and milk bottle!

I dont understand why people get weird about it either. Babies have to eat! Once I was out at a restaurant, and Erica got hungry so I put my nursing cover on, and popped her on the boob. No one would have any idea what was going on, except that they saw Erica before I put her under the cover. Our server must have gotten so uncomfortable, because he came by once the whole time she was feeding. I usually stick to bottles while I'm out, but like you, I still get looks. Although like the girls said, they could just be staring cause its a cute little baby to look at.

If I am nursing in public and I see someone looking at me, I just smile and think, go ahead say something. I have no problems.

I am sure they were just thinking what a cutie you have!!!

haha i went to marine land about 3 weeks ago and well the bottle i had prepared was too cold so I decided to BF max on the park bench ..boy did i get looks after about 3 people I told the last one " take a picture it will last longer " and they just walked away with there heads down ..

I mean for F$%^ sake im not shooting a porn im BF lol

I know you don't mean to be offensive by this statement but some BF'ing mothers might get the impression that you're implying there's something wrong with breast feeding your baby in public - :D I know that's not what you mean but just letting you know!!

I get alot of looks too, I don't pay much attention to it though! It just makes me feel uneasy sometimes when it's men because I know breasts have been sexualized so much nowadays what most men are thinking are gross thoughts!
