Anyone had bad tooth cavities? During my 20th week, I had severe pain and needed a root canal done after my birth, an orthodontist gave me a temp dressing and had me another appt with a dentist for a filling for one tooth cavity that he discovered.

When i went back for the appt, dr checked and I ended up with 3 tooth cavities, and suspected there were even more hidden ones....ok great.

What worries me was the xrays i took, all in all I had 3. the orthodontist did put some protective cover over me and he told me the radiations would be low.

When I went back to the dentist for the fillings, he did 2 xrays for me...now I am beginning to get worried.....

You are obviously showing and also told them you are pregnant and they should know what the max amount a radiation is ok during a pregnancy, so I really wouldn't worry hun. You can always bring it up with your Doctor to set your mind at rest, or even your dentist if you have to see him again, I am sure he will be able to set your mind at ease by explaining it to you i.e what is safe etc. x

Same here, I have to have a filling next week, and I had to have two X-rays, and ill have the injection to make my mouth numb. I just hope it won't harm the baby! (he knows im pregnant)

I think I need a filling but Im too scared to go :( I hate the dentist, you're very brave :)

I think that if there was any chance of the baby being harmed then they wouldn't have done it. Im sure they know whats safe and what isnt :) Itll probably be a lot less radiation on one of those little xrays anyway.

Thanks gals, for the reassurance...I guess docs should know better...

Well, we mums do worry a lot, don't we?

Jamie,
I had a filling replaced just last week and two xrays..Make sure they cover you up with two lead aprons. Basically, most dentist only want to do urgent treatments during pregnancy and a root canal is considered as one, since you're at risk of developing a severe infection that can potentially harm the baby..not to mention the pain if you dont! So dont worry..even if they put you on abs, amoxicillin is normally safe.

The lady at NHS direct told me that thats the first sign of accepting you're a mum. Which was pretty scary for me considering this is my first and a complete suprise!

I think we all worry about everything :)

oh dear, I remembered that I only had one...???

anyway, i did some research on the net, some says not ok and and found a site that says ok...I hope they are right.
I hope this info helps preggie mummies who needs urgent dental treatment like me.

You may have heard that getting an x-ray during pregnancy can harm your baby. This can be true, but in some cases not getting an x-ray can harm you more than it can harm your baby. Remember, a healthy mom means a healthy baby.

With dental x-rays there is hardly any exposure to any part of the body except the teeth.
According to the American College of Radiology, no single diagnostic x-ray has a radiation dose significant enough to cause adverse effects in a developing embryo or fetus. Some common diagnostic procedures include dental, chest, CT scan (head/chest), and abdominal view
.

yeah the xray was ok as it was just a small machine aimed at my teeth, it's just the injection chemical getting to the baby :S

I personally don't think the injection chemical would harm because the dentists were more concerned over my decision if I would mind the xrays and totally unconcerned about the injection chemicals。。。anyway, I hate going to the dentists! Its always a torture.

Hope all goes well for you hun!
