So I called up Nationwide as me and my hubby want to go in and talk to a mortgage advisor, I dont want to do it over the phone because I want us to both sit there and hear the options rather than me just relaying it back to him. Well apparently I can't make an appointment, I told them what I wanted to talk about (there are a few options in regards to our monthly mortgage payments) and I want to discuss those options, and apparently they don't make appointments for those things, but one of them can call me to discuss it over the phone...apparently they have 2 advisors at my local branch. So I can talk to them over the phone but I'm not allowed to go in and speak to them face to face?? Is it just me or does that sound like a big load of horse sh*t!!!!!!

So one of them is calling me tomorrow and I shall ask why they can speak to me on the phone but I'm not allowed to talk to them in person!!

If I was a new customer I'd be able to make an appointment in a flash, but apparently they dont show the same courtesy to their existing customers.

Really annoyed!

That is really weird I have never heard of that .
If the guys are there in the store why can't you just pop in and see them surely they would prefer face to face anyone who has ever worked in the customer service industry I assume would feel the same way..
Maybe with all the recession stuff going on they are less inclined to see ppl face to face for fear of being set upon :)

bloody stupid and if you go in they would prob mess you about !! my dad inherited some money quite a lot which he wanted to put away for what he calls a rainy day they were only too happy to see him made him an appointment for 12 pm on saturday got a phonecall sat morn can he come at 2 instead they've double booked. he went for 2 oh sorry yr appointment was 12 you missed it he told them he had been called and told to come at 2 they had changed his appointment and not told the woman he was seeing she'd gone home !! then when he finally got to see her 3 days later she couldn't help him said he needed to speak to the investor department !! he told her where to go !!!
they dont know which way is up in that bank dont be surprised by them at all !!!

We are currently remorgaging so I feel your pain, I am so sick of dealing with it!
I would just talk to them on the phone, nothing will be decided anyway and they will then send you loads of paperwork through the post so you can sit down with your OH and go over it then.

I had problems with the Halifax when I went in to see them.. booked an appointment and got a call 2 days before telling me that they would not be able to help me so I shouldn't bother coming in to see them.. called their bluff and turned up for the appointment anyway... meh.. she told me they could not help me with anything and it was tough...

Personally I would go into branch and demand to talk to one of them... I hate it that currently the majority of banks in this country owe so much to the tax payer but they refuse to help people out in need of financial assistance.. I wasn't asking for a break or payment holiday or anything like that..

Ohh let me know what Nationwide say... I was planning on making an appointment to discuss maternity payment holidays!!!! (seems they won't do that though!!!):flower:

We tried to arrange to talk to someone at Santander about a payment break or going interest-only for a few months to just be told we couldn't do anything because we are on a fixed rate. Great. So they're more willing to repossess properties than help people out who are having problems paying?! Thankfully DH now has a better paid job so we don't need to do a mortgage break but it would've been handy for the first few months after baby had arrived. Sigh...

Frustrating isn't it, once your a customer they stop being helpful. Just dont get it.

Madge - I'll let you know what they say, one of the options I wanted to discuss was a payment holiday. Maybe your branch would be more helpful than mine! I will say though that if you do a payment holiday they will charge you more the month you go back to paying (wouldn't tell me how much) and then you will get charged monthly after that. Its interest payments.

Penfelyn - we're on fixed rate too, but the guy I spoke to on the phone through their main customer helpline seemed to think it was an option, so hoping we still can. We ideally want to do interest only for a while.

Oh ok. Maybe I got someone that was particularly unhelpful on the phone! Going interest only might help out for a few months. Our payments are quite small anyway, but every penny will help when baby is here!
Hope you manage to get everything sorted :flower:

Thanks!! Fingers crossed, our mortgage payments are fairly high at the moment and as we are right now the payments are fine, we get by, but once I'm getting smp we just wont be able to afford it. Fingers crossed there is something we can do. :)
