We have really struggled agree on a boys name. We had so many lovely girls names to choose from and we never expected to be having a boy in a million years!

Our first born was always going to be Jack if she was a boy, and now we have kind of settled on Jack Samuel for our boys name. We originally went for Toby Jack these are the ONLY two names me and OH can agree on.

Here's my problem and it may sound silly....

Everyone has pressured us for what the name will be and I've had all of OH's families opinions and I feel like his mum has had loads of say in the name Jack even if we did think of it before she mentioned it. I feel kind of like if I name him Jack she will feel like she had a say in it and it was her influence and that makes me feel really bitter about the whole thing! I just wanted this baby to have a *secret* and special name and if we go ahead with Jack now it's just spoiled that for me. I know its childish!

I like so many more boys names but OH wont budge on anything other than Jack or Toby, and I'm not keen on Toby as much now.

Here are a few other names I really like. Im a big fan of biblical boys names!

OH kind of agrees to like

Caleb
Jonah

I really like
Caleb
Jonah
Ezra
Elijah
Reuben

I know exactly how you feel! My son is Jack. I made the mistake when pregnant with him of naming my list to some family. We were team yellow and it had about 6 names on it but for some reason my SIL said 'I bet you have a boy and call him Jack' probably because OH's grandpa was Jack too. For a few weeks I decided I wouldn't go for it simply because of that. But luckily I forgot all about other people and went for the name we loved. And Jack he was. I'm so happy we went with it despite other people guessing it or having a say

I think Jack Samuel is lovely and I also really like Toby Jack!

Other biblical names I can think of that may be your style:

Micah
Seth
Jacob

Jack is such a great name for a baby through to an old man. I love it! I know where you're coming from though, and I'd probably be feeling the same way!

I like the name Jack, it's simple but he can be whoever he wants with a name like that iykwim.
However I do understand the whole MIL thing, if anyone was pushing a name I'd probably reject it too :)

Haha thanks everyone. I do love jack, i think in my heart i know he will end up being jack but i just feel like being a rebel lol. i hate feeling like someone else has named our son.

we already got a little t-shirt with a J on the front too. So if not jack, Jonah! Lol!!

What about Samuel Jack? I love Samuel, I'm using it if this bub is a boy - Samuel Joseph. If my mil thought she had influence over the name chosen it would be enough to put me off it..

What about a name which shortens to Jack? I know a couple of Jacob's who go by Jac/Jack and I've seen Jacksons on here shortened to Jack. My Grandpa was John but known as Jack when he was young, I know that is quite common. You could be a bit jazzy and go for Jaques maybe.

I like Jack! It was 3rd on the list for Thomas.

I can understand the MIL thing as Sophie was meant to be Zoe, but MIL liked it so much she named her kitten Zoe and then went and told everyone that her cat and our baby would match.

Sorry your MIL sounds creepy.

I see you had the baby - congrats!! What did you end up naming him? What has MIL had to say about it?
