Our family dosnt like our name unusual name choice, do you?

There's that famous DR from embarassing bodies called Pixie (uk ladies).

Tbh I'm not keen on either of them, sorry!
But if you love them then screw what your family think. Easiest thing you can do is just not tell them, someone will always have an opinion!

shes not called pixie, do people really actually think thats her name? :dohh:

shes called Dr. Bernadette she get nicknames Pixie by her collegues because shes tiny and has a pixie crop its NOT the name on her CV, Docterate or that got her into a highly competeative medschool program lol

A nickname can be ANYTHING the cuter or crazier the better but its a parents duty to give their child a proper name so they have chances in the world, you might love the name BooBea Faery-Dust and always wanted to use it but lets face it it would be selfish. when naming a real person you have the responsability to give them the best name you can for competing in an already tough world... most the cute names you hear people go by are not whats on their birth certificate.

I use to work in admissions so I see it all the time that the girls that go by Lulubelle is really called Laura or Tink is really called Jade or Kitty is really Danielle, sometimes it not even 'crazy' nicknames sometime Tasha might actually be called Marie on the birth certificate or Dolly is just short for Dolores (like I suggested) but more people than people would expect go by nicknames

I voted Poppy, which I later saw you had more or less ruled out but I think it is pretty. I considered this name seriously for my daughter, then like you, a lot of other Poppy's popped up. I wouldn't have minded this, but later moved on to Rosie which I prefered anyway. It is YOUR daughter and even if others out there are called the same, so what really. I wouldn't let that rule things if you really liked it.

I'm not so sure on Dolly, as a grown up name later on it might not be as nice. Possibly Pixie too...sorry. Nice names for children/young. The only times I've heard the names are Dolly Parton, a Z list celeb's baby called Dolly and Bob Geldoff's daughter Pixie. I don't think I've ever heard them anywhere else,(UK) so I guess at least they would be pretty unique if you did choose them. It's your child and your choice, go with what you love!

Well she manages to get by and be seen as very successfull going by her nickname. I've never heard her known as anything else. God forbid someone get it wrong!

Sorry, I know that naming another human being can be an excruciatingly difficult process, and other people's opinions are not always welcomed and/or appreciated, but if you really want my honest opinion, I agree with your family. I know that you're leaning against Poppy, but that's my favorite of your top three. When I think of a "pixie," I think of either a very petite girl or of the hairstyle. Perhaps it's just me, but I'd be worried that my child would get made fun of if she wasn't very petite. Dolly just isn't my style.

Both names are very nickname-ish, or baby-ish, or good names for a cute pet... to me. I'm more traditional in my name styles though, disliking nicknames as full names. I'm having a bit of trouble especially because they sound like nicknames to me.

That said, it wouldn't be fun if everyone had the same names and I appreciate names that are a bit out there... And this is your child, not your parents'. You should make the decision based on your real feelings for the name and take the real concerns and feedback into consideration, without letting them not liking it be part of the influence. Because either way, they will learn to see the child as Pixie or Dolly, or any other name you use once it's official. :)

I wouldn't use either name myself but don't let that stop you. If you love it, go for it!

On a side note, I prefer Dollie to Dolly

They are really cute names but I always run names through a test - if I had a Dr with this name would I trust them ? I would say no to Pixie, maybe instead of Dolly you could have Dorothy and Dolly as a nickname ? Sorry just my honest opinion.

But remember it is your child and that's all that matters. Once the baby is here people will forget the connotations they had with the name before and the name will forever remind them of your little one and they will have a positive association with it.

I love dorothy! I think dolly as a nn is much better than dolly on it's own, the person can choose then

I ament keen on the name Dolly or Pixie. To me these remind me of pretty little dancer girls but what if you have a tomboy that like rugby or something they might not appreciate being called Dolly

The names are all cute. I voted for Pixie as I like it a bit more than Dolly (I'm not keen on 'olly' names like Holly, Molly Polly etc).

I wouldn't bat an eye at a doctor or a job candidate with an unusual name. It has no bearing on the person or their skills at all, and as an adult I can see that logically and not let it cloud my judgement. I don't even know what my doctors first name is!

Also, people will be haters no matter what name you choose. You can see how safe and boring my kids names are - people were still horrified, or wrinkled up their noses.

Im sorry but i couldnt vote, i really dislike them all for an actual person / adult.
But each to their own. We cant all like the same names.
