On Nuva Ring birth control
Positive pregnancy test beginning of October 2008. Even though we weren’t trying we, were happy that we were pregnant.
I went the doctor the very next day after positive test and doctor preformed a pelvic exam. She said to expect some lite bleeding. I had lite bleeding so I didn’t think anything of it. I still had steady lite bleeding days to follow doctor visit. I called the doctor’s office to advise them. Nurses said there was nothing that they could do because I was too early for a sonogram. Maybe a week of bleeding later I was able to go in and the doctor did a sonogram. She did not see a sac and she did not like the amount of blood I had. She prescribed me progesterone capsule to insert vaginally. They did stop the bleeding. I felt hopeful. All this time I continued to come in for blood work every morning and my HCG numbers continued to climb. I had another sonogram about a week after I began the progesterone. She still could not see a sac. She then sent me to the hospital to have them perform a sonogram on me because they had better equipment. All the while she gave me a form that indicated a possible ectopic pregnancy; if found, solution abort. At the time I had no idea what any of that meant. My mom had 10 pregnancies in which 9 she gave birth with 1 miscarriage and she went to every single doctor’s appointment with me. We went to hospital and they preformed the sonogram. The tech did say she saw that my left fallopian tube did look to be inflamed. Moments later, the doctor confirmed that my left tube was indeed carrying my baby and the baby had to be removed. My doctor showed up and told me they she advised that I have surgery laparoscopically to remove the baby. She was concerned my fallopian tube would rupture over the Thanksgiving holiday which she would be working anyway she wanted to go ahead and remove the baby that day or the next. My other option was to take an injection that would dissolve the baby over time and my tube could still erupt in the mean time. B y this time I am 7 weeks pregnant. Emotionally I knew I wouldn’t be able to handle the injection and health risk of the possible rupture. I chose to have the surgery that day know that it would be very difficult for me to return to the hospital the next day. I had the surgery and when I woke up, I went home and in the packets of discharge paperwork there were photos from surgery to were meant to verify that my left tube was in fact hold the baby and it was cut open and the baby was removed. I had to heal from this emotionally and physically. I still had to shed my lining like women do after pregnancy and I was healing from the surgery. I have never emotionally healed from the experience.

March 2013 husband I decide we want to start try to conceive a baby. I have very regular cycles. We try and we try nothing happens. I have my women’s exam in September; doctor recommends a hysterosalpingograph (HSG.) She refers me to a fertility clinic in the same city near her office. I call the office to get the information and I asked them to verify with my insurance if the procedure would be covered. They advised me I needed to call my insurance company myself. I did and they advised me that the procedure would go toward my deductable. So I let things go and husband and I continued trying. September 2014; still no luck and it is time for my exam again. Doctor really concerned I haven’t conceived yet. She tells me to call the fertility clinic again for HSG and my husband needed a sperm count. She gave me paper work for both procedures. I okay, I am just going to schedule my HSG. I went in and had it. (By the way, my insurance covered it 100% aside of a specialist copay because the procedure is considered diagnostics.) The procedure itself was pretty painful for me even though they numb you. The results were obvious right then because I could see the screen where the dye is going through your uterus and fallopian tubes. My uterus filled and my right tube filled, but my left, not at all. I half expected this result considering when a person has surgery, scarring occurs. My left fallopian tube is block by scar tissue from my first pregnancy. I know you can still get pregnant with one fallopian tube, but I was crying and the doctor who performed the HSG acted like it was no big deal, I have another open fallopian tube. I went home and was sore and spotted for two or three days from the procedure. Husband had the semen analysis October 31, 2014. This was his first time trying this. The first part of his sample (the most potent portion) did not make it in the cup. He turned that sample in and it came back abnormal of course. Mean while we are having some family issues on my end and we had to move a home so trying to conceive was kind of put on the back burner. I was also suffering depression over not being able to conceive and the things going on with my family so my general doctor put me on a small dose of antidepressants. I was advised to stop trying but if I did indeed get pregnant and had to suddenly stop the antidepressants, I would be fine. I started feeling less overwhelmed and things were looking up at home. I just felt better. I felt like I could breathe. I stayed on the anti depressants for 5 months before I discontinued them.

June 2015; husband and I decided we need to go see what the fertility doctor’s suggestions were in regards to trying to conceive. We make an appointment, they doctor has us go into his office. He sits us down and says our only option is IVF. It was actually the very first thing he said once we were sitting. He then opens our file. He looks at my husband semen report. Husband’s report indicates 9.9 million semen per milliliter. He said we needed at least 10 million for IUI. He talked over us when we tried to ask questions and he immediately want to get my husband into see a urologist to get his sperm count up. He even gave him a pamphlet for a website to order vitamins. My husband takes vitamins daily and is in incredible shape and health. I have finally been able to stop the doctor and say; the report clearly indicates spillage so the count is definitely off can we retest. He didn’t seem really on board with retesting, but I demanded it considering sperm count can change in 8 months. We scheduled a semen analysis. It came back perfectly normal. 90 million sperm per milliliter. Husband and I long decided before the results came back that we did not want to continue with this doctor and give him any kind of credit. I found a new doctor in a city neighboring us. I set the appointment up the new fertility clinic on July 15, 2015. She sat down with us in her office and answered all of our questions and educated us. We liked her immediately. On the first visit they draw blood from both female and male for testing and I also had to have a trans-vaginal sonogram. The sonogram indicated all things positive. I was due for my period any day. We opted for a clomid cycle with IUI. I started my period the very next day July 16 in the morning; this was cycle day 1. They told me to come in for my 2-3 cycle day sonogram on Saturday cycle day 3. The sonogram showed my lining thinning and at least 13 follicles in each ovary. All good news. I started taking clomid on cycle day 3. I continued clomid until cycle day 7. Cycle day 10 was scheduled for a sonogram on July 25. The sonogram revealed one follicle in the left ovary at 12.2mm and in the right fallopian tube; I had 3 follicles 11.6mm, 10.6mm, and 11.5mm. All of this is also good news. I did some online research about how my body would know which egg to release come ovulation time. All of the answers I received was the body releases the most mature follicle. So far the most mature follicle I had was in my left ovary. Mind you, follicles grow about 1-2mm a day. I really got discouraged because I knew there was major chance my body would release the follicle on my left side. Yes there is a rare small chance that the right fallopian tube can swing over to the left side (fallopian tubes are mobile) and pick up a follicle that has been released, but this is very so rare. I was so upset that this cycle could possibly be unsuccessful. I went back for cycle day 13 sonogram. The sonogram revealed that my biggest follicle was now on the right side and to top it off, I had had a 4th follicle come in that was already 14mm at this point. 18mm is considered mature. I wasn’t able to get the actual sizes because the nurse closed out of my screen before I could get the sizes. But I do know that the left was about 1mm smaller than the biggest follicle on the right. Needless to say I was elated. I was told to start using my ovulation test every 12 hours. Once in the morning and once in the evening and call in as soon as I got a positive LH surge reading. The nurse also said if I didn’t ovulated by July 30, my next sonogram appointment that they would have me use my trigger shot of Ovidrel. So I test Tuesday evening, morning and evening Wednesday, still no surge. I went into work early Tuesday since I have a 10A.M. appointment for my cycle day 15 sonogram. I brought my OPK to work so I could test at 7A.M. (this didn’t want me using first urine of the day to test because it is too hormonal and could give a false positive) I tested at 7A.M. and received my first positive surge. I immediately called husband and told him to skip work today. I called the clinic and they converted my 10A.M. appointment into my husband drop off appointment and I was due back at 11:30 for my IUI appointment. Husband sample was kind of smaller because we had also been having intercourse knowing ovulation would be approaching. He yielded 20. mL of semen for the procedure. (20mL is the minimum.) Post washing of the semen. He had 5 million sperm which was also the minimum; he had 97% mobility and 69 % progressive mobility. Even though we had what was considered a smaller sample for the procedure we still went through with the procedure and the nurse said it was okay. The procedure was kind of painful, nowhere near as painful as the HSG. The nurse then did an ultrasound on me. The semen is mixed with a solution when they inject it into me so the solution was visible on the sonogram. I still had all of the follicles in place so I had not yet ovulated. The follicle in my left ovary was 23.4mm. The follicles on my right ovary were 24.1mm, 16.8mm, 19.8mm, and 24.4mm. She advised us to definitely have intercourse the next day, which was Friday. I felt really good about everything. I told husband we need to have intercourse in the morning and evening to make sure we covered our bases. The nurse called back with blood work result to say that I was definitely surging and I did not need the trigger shot as my body was doing what it is suppose to do on it’s own. (I was at a 46 and 18 is minimum for a surging.) The nurse also said we could not have had better timing as far as doing the IUI; again great news. We had intercourse at 5A.M. Friday and 9P.M. Friday. I was pretty uncomfortable all day Friday. I was cramping and hurting. The morning intercourse was really painful, but I stuck it out. The evening wasn’t near as painful, just uncomfortable. I then had a sonogram appointment scheduled for Saturday August 1. The sonogram revealed I ovulated. I still had the follicle in my left ovary. I ovulated all 4 follicles that were in my right ovary. I left the doctor’s office crying with joy, over the simple fact that my body do what it is suppose to. Now I am faced with the possibility of multiples if I am in fact pregnant. The clinic scheduled my blood test for Tuesday August 11 to see if I am pregnant. This two week wait has been the longest. I am hopeful and then I have to also think about that test also saying that I am not pregnant. PMS symptoms are also very similar to pregnancy symptoms so it is difficult not to compare. Either way I will know by Tuesday as some point in the morning probably and today is Sunday. Friday is my 30th birthday. I wish for a positive pregnancy test Tuesday.
