Warning...tons of pics! lol

I finally feel ready to post Preston's birth story, it's been a long long 15 days since he was born, so much has happened but we finally have our baby home with us tonight and we couldn't be happier :cloud9:

On Monday May 30th at 6pm we went into the hospital to be induced because my blood pressure was high and just getting higher. I was 37wks 2 days and us and the dr felt we had made it to the safe time to have him, he was full term. That night they put a balloon cath into my uterus and also against my cervix so it would press together and dilate my cervix...the safest way to get things going since I was a VBAC. At 7am they took that out and I was 6cm. I had had contractions through the night but they gave me some pain meds and sleeping pill so I could sleep, surprisingly I slept really well. So after taking the balloon out they started pitocin and broke my water and very quickly contractions came on really strong. I had planned to go without an epidural this time as our original plan had been to have a water birth at a birth center but with my blood pressure issues that was now out of the question. The dr had said he'd be surprised if I was still pregnant at noon. At 11:30am I was checked and was 8cm. A few hours later still at 8cm so I decided to get the epidural because by this time I was stressing out because the pain was bad and I thought by getting it I would relax and things would move along. I was so worried with being with this new OB now that they would push the c-section faster so I wanted to do everything I could to avoid that. Well it didn't work so at one point they turned off the pitocin to allow it to clear out of my body so that when they started it back up they hoped it would get things going better. As soon as the pit was turned off my contractions slowed way down and almost stopped, so after the hour they turned it back on and it helped some, finally at 7:30pm I was 9cm and 0 station. We kept changing my position hoping to bring him down more and dilate the rest of the way. At 9pm I was feeling a bit of pressure and she said I had just a lip of cervix left but we'd try and push past it. So I pushed once and they said to stop and let them set up because he was coming. At this point my epi had been worn off for a couple hours. So everything got all set up and my legs in stirrups and we were there waiting for a contraction. No contraction. I swear it felt like we waited forever with my legs all spread, everyone just waiting and watching haha. Finally he rubbed my stomach and stimulated a contraction and I pushed with it once and Preston Blake was born :) They put him on my chest and he just whimpered, didn't really cry, I immediately asked if he was ok and the dry looked concerned but told me yes but handed him to the nurse to have him suctioned out and checked out. I delivered the placenta a few min later and the dr discovered Preston had a true knot in his cord. We were very lucky it didn't cause any problems with labor or him. If it had been pulled in any way his oxygen would have been fully cut off and things could have been very bad very quickly.

Preston was born at 9:30pm on May 31st, 37wks 3days and weighing 7lbs 1oz and 20in long (we were told 19in at first but that was wrong). We got to have him in the room with us for about 1.5hrs but then we noticed he was seriously blue and the nurse took him to the nursery there. They got him on CPAP immediately and he wasn't doing well. They told us if he could maintain at 60% oxygen or below with the CPAP he could stay at that hospital, it came very apparent very quickly that wasn't going to happen. He was transferred to a level 3 nicu in the middle of the night and put on a ventilator. They released me the next morning so I could go be with him. The next few days were very touch and go, there was talk of him needing a high frequency ventilator and possibly ECMO. They had to put him on nitric oxide and luckily after a couple days he started to get better and just went up from there. but for a few days he was very sick and the drs weren't very hopeful. It was so hard, I couldn't believe my pretty much full term baby was so so sick. The drs and nurses were even surprised with just how sick he was. I was later told, once he was better, that he was one of the sickest babies in that NICU and they have some micro preemies in there who obviously need lots of support. We are so thankful that he pulled through and after 6 days on nitric, a few more on the ventilator, 12 days total in NICU then just 3 days in special care we brought our little boy home today :)

We started nursing today too, he only started feeds from a bottle on Sunday so he's doing really well. Since getting him home he has just nursed and seems to be doing great! He is now 7lbs 7.6oz.

Sorry so long, but there is lots more detail about his NICU stay if anyone wants to read it on my blog https://mylifeasamommyof3littleboys.blogspot.com/ you will need to send me a PM with your email because I had to make it private because of some people causing drama.

But here are some pics from his birth-now

I have a picture of him coming out, you can't actually see any private parts but not sure if it's too graphic so I won't put it up for now but it's a really awesome pic lol. Here is the pic of the knot in his cord

This was the day he turned around, they had taken him off some of the sedation medication, he knew we were there and he got his first ever tube feeding of breastmilk...that night he suddenly turned the corner and was so much better the next day and just went up from there
