I would say wait until you're closer to 30 weeks when baby has some more fat

We did the early gender scan at 15 weeks. They have cheaper packages but the 30 min, 3d/4d and HD scan was $125.00

If you're more patient than us, then I would def wait until further along. They say between 25-32 weeks is the best time frame.
