ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch! help!

so as you may have read I'm trying to give up my 75% pumping routine and feed ted directly from the breast 100%. this has been going on for a total of 2 feeds...and i'm in agony. my nips are on fire and boobs full of milk - seems ted isnt taking as much as I used to pump...He definately had some though as his mouth was full and he was gulping and then dozed off.
Just sitting here my nipples are aching and boobs hruting - like them may explode at any time..and like lightening pains down the boob...eeeeeeouuuuuuch!

When he latches on OK it's fine. But he tends to get just the nipple bit for a few tries and goes at it like he's starving, so i have to take him off and try again. Which is sooo painful. Having got it wrong so many times I'm left in agony - I blame me and not baby as I think i only just worked out how to do it right, and perhaps this is a little late as I'm now hurting lots....oooh how do I get past this pain? I'm so tempted to pump off some adn give hima bottle...

Go now and get some pure lanolin and start using it NOW after every feed. Getting the correct latch is important and getting it right the "first time" will hopefully improve with practice. I would say it's fine to pump some off, especially since if you are very engorged it can make it harder for him to latch properly. Try to resist the bottle though as much as possible- your nipples need to "toughin up" (sorry, it's not a pleasant experience) and won't if you don't cut back on the pumping. Maybe just give up one bottle feeding for bfing tomorrow and then another one the next day, and so on.

the lanolin is AMAZING!!!!! i had cracked and bleeding nipples and it worked for me in two days. i dont know what to say about the stinging pain as that still happens to me and it also hurts if hes not latched on well.

thnaks - i am managing to reduce the volume i give him via bottle at each feed by almost a half so he's taking more via the boob straight after his bottle..eventually I'll forego the bottle. I did try and give up bottle all in one go but it was too much - he was a grumpy baby last night and I was an unhappy mummy!

Today we're doing good. he did the best latch on earlier and i was so proud of him!

Oh good...it sounds like you are right on track! Definetely do what makes you and baby happy- that is MOST important! Nipples getting any better yet?

right now I'm in such pain. Nipples are NOT getting better. This mrning it was great. But after a day of baby being incredibly hungry and me 100% brestfeeding (I didnt have time to pump if I'd wanted) then my nipples feel on fire. One is sligtly better than the other but typically thats the side with less milk. Baby is now grumpy as I cant feed him yet (I've no milk, I'm sure he drank it all,,,or we're having a milk crisis - I even tried to pump and nothing) and I'm in such pain...... am so close to saying sod it - and going to buy formula tomorrow...

I'm not sure how i'll get through the night....might have to set an alarm to wake me in time to pump before baby wakes to feed...my nipples are stinging and burning and feel like they've got needles stabbing them.....should it be this bad!?!?!? maybe his latch still sint right....but it's certainly wider than it was...and he gets planty of milk when it's there....oooooooh ouuuuuuuuuuuch.

Why did nature design us this way??

I don't know tinytoes, but I sure know what you're going through!

My best advice, is not to think of any feed but the one that's just ahead. JUST GET THROUGH ONE MORE FEED. It becomes really overwhelming when you're thinking beyond that. Especially when you're hurting.
