Over 35 Mommy and baby pictures

Hi Clio,

Gorgeous son! Avery started getting clingy at 7 months, when I did some research it said that this is the stage they are starting to realize they are a separate individual from you, and they start to form separation anxiety. Avery is much better now but lasted about three weeks, was not fun!

I've got to say, I like the idea of an over-35 thread. What I've faced and what I'm going through now is different than younger moms.

For example, I once got a look at my file at the fertility clinic. Stamped across the front were the words: "Geriatric Maternal Age."

Geriatric??? I mean, I'd just come to terms with "Advanced," but "GERIATRIC?"

Thank you! And this explains a lot. What I really like about it is that it only lasted 3 weeks!

And geriatric! I know! I was so completely insulted. It is such a completely inappropriate term! Having been designated with both PCOS (which, granted, was true) but "AMA"--Advanced Maternal Age--because I was over friggin' 35 was awful enough, but to have it changed to "geriatric"??? It's like they look for ways to be cruel.

I had this horrible OB who told me, after one visit (and this is what she said, word for word):

"You're old. You have endometriosis. [Huh? Since when?] We have to move straight to IVF."

I had just turned 37.

I had my first son at 36, month shy of 37 and yes, it was "advanced maternal age." When I had son #2 at the age of 44 my file said, "geriatric pregnancy." Ugh.

Vintage...you had your son at 44. I have a few questions in case I do decide to have another, the first I conceived with clomid did you use anything if you don't mind me asking?

Um, did I accidentally get us moved out of Baby Club to the Lounge Area?

Clio, that is sooo funny!!! I was laughing sooo hard about the "geriatric" term:)!!!!! :haha:
We older moms get no respect :dohh:!!!
I am so glad that we are finding more of us here:). Like you said it is just fun to chat and discuss some issues that are pertinent to moms over 35. And your LO is beautiful:).

I am interested in hearing your answer too vintage. All I know is that I don't want any kids the next year or 2. Maybe is the lack of energy that makes me think twice about having a second one :haha:. Maybe I should be labeled geriatric mom :haha:!!!

Vintage, I am Über-impressed. I'm actually interested as well--how did you do it?

I couldn't do another. I think it's more because of what we went through with IF than any other reason. But I also have difficulty imagining going through raising another baby. Still, it's always nice to know that we're not completely out of the game, so, as I said, I'd be interested in hearing your story, Vintage.

How did I do it? Well, it wasn't easy. We tried for 4 years and had 3 miscarriages along the way. I hung out on a lot of various forums, only lurking. It seems the over 40's come in two categories; ones that can't seem to get a BFP at all and ones like me, that get them and can't get them to "stick."

We did calendar monitoring, and I saw an endocrinologist and got my thyroid at an optimum level. I was also battling type 2 diabetes and it was a constant strugge to keep good numbers which can affect conception and miscarriages.

So, it was basically calendar watching, keeping my legs elevated for 30 minutes afterwards, and trying somehow to keep going after 3 miscarriages, one of which went to 12 weeks and a lot of my hair fell out afterwards.

Good luck to anyone trying to conceive in your "geriatric years.":haha:
I also dumped the OB I had had for 20 years due to his negativity.

Oh wow. That is crazy determination. Again, I am so impressed, especially seeing as you did it naturally. I know a number of people on another forum who are over 40 and can't get them to stick. You would be such an inspiration.
