How accurate are they? Does anyone use them to work out when to have sex & which means that is the best time to conceive? J x

hi i wouldnt say the generic ones are very reliable because they are just estimating when you ovulate which might be wrong. But i use fertility friend, because you can add your own details, and then its more accurate. i dont temp, just check cervix and cm and it estimates when im likely to be fertile. I would reccomend it :)

I use fertility friend as well and it's great. I temp and check CM Nd it tells me exactly what day i ovulated. It's pretty neat and it's free-worth a try at least.

If you used one based on a proper NFP method, they can be very accurate (providing you're recording everything properly!!)

Otherwise, they tend to just be the old (and awful!) rhythm method! One of the ones I used put my ovulation slap back at 14 days. But from my peak day (around ovulation date), it's only around 9 days to AF comes back, so I usually ovulate around day 19.

I'd say none of them come close to getting a proper tutor to explain everything and help you learn a method that suits you for charting!

They can be accurate when done right, although you may not realise you ovulated until afterwards. The most effective way to catch ovulation in my opinion/personal experience is to just DTD every 1-2 days though.

I plan on starting to use fertility friend on my next cycle as a way of avoiding ovulation (I guess between WTT and NTNP).

They can be pretty accurate if you chart temps and CM together- that will tell you when you're fertile as you approach O, and when you've O'd (and also when you're likely to get AF). I've just started charting myself after coming off BCP, and was so excited to see my first O temp peak, and then temp dip just before AF showed. Track your CM to know when to DTD approaching O. Can highly recommend the book Taking Charge of your Fertility, along with either Fertility Friend, or the website of TCOYF...

I have been using FF since january along with OPK's and clear blue fertility monitor. At first it was to know when not to DTD and so that I could get to know mt cycles before we TTC! But as you can see the first month of TTC and we got pregnant and I think that FF and the CBFM were the 2 things that made it happen so quickly!

Good Luck x:thumbup:

Thanks girls I will work out how to use it? haha xxx

I also recommend Taking Charge of your Fertility. I have it, and it helps a ton with understanding charting and what everything means. Fertility Friend also has a tutorial of how ot use it, but the book is a great reference, especially if something you chart doesn't seem right! I plan on charting as soon as I come off BCP so I can see what my cycles are doing, and use it as one method of BC until we TTC.
