Hello :)

I'm currently 33 weeks 6 days and these past couple of days I've been feeling a lot of pressure down below. If I pick up my 2 year old daughter or something heavy, get up quickly or just sit in the wrong position there's a sharp shooting pain in my vagina which really makes me have to stop dead and actually say 'ouch' out loud. This baby seems to be moving around a lot. On Sunday he was in the transverse position and yesterday he was breech, but curled up, as the midwife said there was nothing down near the pelvis. I didn't say anything to the midwife because there was just the pressure, but today the sharp shooting pains have happened every hour. I'm getting induced at 38 weeks due to depression, so hoping he stays in until then :) I was just wondering if anyone knows what it might be, or have experienced this?

Thank you :)

I've experienced extreme pressure here and there if I get up wrong or if I have to urinate(sudden urge to also). And I have pains around the pelvic bone, sharp pains. But my midwife told me its normal and gave me a maternity belt to wear. The belt relieves the pressure and weight of the the baby on the pelvis. I did wear the belt and felt better. Sometimes the baby is laying on a nerve and can cause pain associated with that nerve. I'd say though if it gets unbearable or you start getting other signs of labor(cramping coming and going, bleeding, fluid gushing out, etc), I'd ring the labor and delivery. They might want to check you out just to be sure. Don't know how it is in other countries, but in the US, they state if you feel pressure similar to holding a bowling ball between your legs(or the baby feels like he/she is balling up) to get checked out anyways just to be safe.

I started experiencing it when Mia's head started dropping and engaging. It's called lighting crotch. #8. The term “lightening crotch” will become a painful reality.

Next to labor, you really haven’t felt true pain until you’ve been kicked in the vagina by your unborn baby. Of course, there are lots of different possibilities for why this might be happening to you, depending on what stage of pregnancy you’re at. It could be due to baby’s repositioning in your uterus, or maybe what you’re feeling is some early Braxton Hicks contractions. Whatever the case, “lightning crotch” pretty much happens to all of us and isn’t necessarily a sign of anything bad. Consider it a rite of passage and try working on looking less shocked when it happens in public (because it will).
