My husband will do the painting but we have a VERY large living area and on top of that, the hallway that connects to our bedroom to the living room will need to be painted as well. Even though I won't be exposed to paint fumes while painting I know the whole house will smell (and be fumy) for quite a while. To make matters worse it's to cold to have the windows open (except maybe for an hour a day if we have to) I wish we could have done it sooner but the money just was not there. Do you think I will be okay sleeping in my bedroom, or should I stay somewhere else for a night or even a week???

You can get paint that is designed to be used while of and in baby's room etc, tho it may cost a little more

To be honest I think it will depend how you feel, you might find the fumes overwhelming or if you stay in the bedroom etc it might be ok.
We redecorated when we moved a couple of months ago and it was fine for me, just left the windows open and didn't go in the rooms that were being painted, I found it ok but if you feel more comfortable somwhere else then maybe stay there for a few days x

VOC free paint can be bought if you haven't already bought paint. It is more expensive but will be better in the long run because VOC paint continues to leech chemicals for a very long time afterwards, even once the smell goes away. I rent so I don't have an option of this but if I owned my own house I would be repainting with VOC free paint.

We painted most of our downstairs when I was about 9 weeks pregnant and didn't seem to suffer any ill effects. We used 'normal' paint (water based?). I did a little reading first and most said it was thought to be very low risk but as often happens, it was one of those where very little testing has been done. It was summer though so doors and windows were wide open to help it ventilate. Personally I probably wouldn't worry too much.

As long as its not oil/lead based paint you are fine. Just keep the area well ventilated.

I have just painted livingroom/hallway myself, I kept all windows/doors open & slept with bedroom door closed to stop fumes from hallway. I was fine didn't even get a headache.

I found most paints arnt as smelly as they used to be. I painted my own room and kids room while pregnant and glossed a massive window and was fine where as with first preg I was throwing up with smell. You know yourself if its strong get out of its way. Try crown paint, I dont my kitchen there and never smelled a thing in next room too.

You should be fine, I painted with OH last time and was totally fine :)
