Well my mini man Parker is 48 hrs old and asleep so thought would take time to write his birth story...
Tue 3/4 - I awoke having contractions that were completly different to that i had experienced before...so naturally i got very excited. I had a sweep book for 3pm so off we went...i was told i was 1cm dialted and if the sweep was going to work it should in the 12 hours or so....that evening the contactions fizzled out ...so went to bed highly annoyed...
Wed 4/4 - I woke at 2am to intense contractions - and when i say intense i mean wow! loads of ppl asked if u know that your in labour - well i can safely say there was no denying it...it was completly different to all the false labour and BH i had had before. So I woke hubby and we spent an hour packing and sorting the dog out.
- We headed off to the hospital and arrived just before 4am - i was checked over and told i was 4cm and could be admitted - woop!
- However all there spare rooms were currently being cleaned and would be 20 min or so until i could get one...so i was left in the corridor...well in the 20 min 3 other women are admitted with complications - so thet obvio jumped up the que and got the rooms before me...(at this moment contracting 70 sec every 3-4min - but coping well) so i was left in the corridor...
- an hour and 20 min passes and i am still in the corridor at which point not coping so well, and hubby getting angrier by the min at the staff...eventually a MW turns up and says 'there no room at the Inn' so they take me to the birthing centre (why i couldnt have gone there in the first place who knows).
- 7.30am i am now settled in to what i have to say was a lovely room in the birthing centre contracting well with my Gas n Air. The MW does a exam and i am now 6cm and she breaks my waters. They then let me get in the pool...very nice i must say.
-9.00am - well this is where it went wrong (well for me any way) the pain trippled in the space of 10 min...contractions were not stopping G&A was not even touching it...and well to put it lightly i Lost It - big time!! i started screaming the place down begging everyone for an epidural.
-9.30am - shift change i got new MW- she tried to convince me to have Pethidine but i was so set against it...but i was in soooo much pain - she was adamant that i was going through the 'transition phase' and baby would be along soon - i was not so sure.
Well after a really bad contraction i have had it so i jump out the pool and am literally begging for an Epi - the MW goes and gets a second opinion who checks me over - I am 8cm but turns out the baby had turned back to back and was stuck - hence the pain.
10am- they finally let me transfer to Labour ward and i am given a epi (the longest half hour of my life) i actually think i was ready to walk the corridor naked to get to the pain meds quicker...i have never felt anything like it.
10.25am - the pain med guy came (no idea how to spell it) and i managed to calm down enough to get the epi (he was not a happy chap). it took nearly 40min to kick in but they only gave me the lowest dose so as not to slow labour down to much...so was still in pain but nothing like before. At this point it also turns out baby had pooed and was a bit distressed- so deff good that i got transfered.
Turns out i had also pooed - i did notice but it was cleared away so quickly...and really not a big issue (i was completly freaking out about this before).
- so the MW gave me 3 hours to labour the last 2cm - contractions were strong but was managing to breathe through them and enjoy the last bit of my labour.
1.25pm I am checked and i fully dialted - woop! so i am allowed to push...6 contractions and baby Parker was born screaming his head off! The Paed checked his over because of the meconiom. Have to say this was the most satisfying bit of the whole experience...the ring of fire was exactly that but it only lasted mere seconds...have to say though sods law...my contractions had been every 3min for the whole 12 hrs...then at this point they slowed down to 7-8min apart - so weirdest feeling having his head there for so long.
I deliever the placenta 10 min later - eww is all i can say...it huge!
I am checked over and amazingly i only have two real small grazes that didnt need any stitching...not bad if i do say so my self.
we are moved to recovery ward and left for 24 hours for Parker to be observered in case he swallowed any of the meconium. - As i was in a hospital which has a horrfic reputation up until now my care had been brilliant - lovely rooms, kind MW's (well except being left in the corridor). but the recovery ward was a whole new world...with mean ppl. I asked one MW to help me change Parker for the first time as i was still linked up to the cathater (which i have to say was bliss not having to worry about needing a wee - as you wee ALOT!) but she just pulled it out and made me get on with changing him - ouch is all i have to say!
Then yesterday at 6pm we are finally given the all clear!
We are now at home and he is breast feeding like a champ (which takes some getting used to...but deff getting there), he is way to cute for words.
It is so surreal looking a little person that looks like you and your OH mixed together.
I did spend the first 24 hours crying...as way hormonal which i wasnt expecting - but that seems to have passed.
can i say to all you women who have yet to go through labour - take ICE PACKS...because OMG the pain down there after...be it the grazing/stitched/ or the Hemarroids....i was never expecting any thing like it.
Well he is awoken so off to feed...thanks for reading!
