Hi, I applied for flexible working and got my hours compressed into fewer days but they denied my request for part time working. They said that they didn't want my position to become part time as they would never be able to recruit for it full time again as Personnel would take the budget back.

Is there anything I can do about this as I can't manage full time, I'm a walking zombie and I just want to curl in a ball and cry

Thanks

Your employer has to seriously consider your request but it doesn't have to be approved. Is there another area of your company that do have part time roles you could look at transferring to?

you can appeal it and suggest job share if you didnt when u 1st put in for it xx

Thanks I might try the job share idea. The wages I'm on at the moment is a lot more than I would get doing another role or at another company so I don't really want to leave my current role, I just wish I could do less days

I would appeal it. If you're asking to do 37 hours over 4 days instead of 5, their budget would remain the same. Most employers would suggest an alternative. Gl xxx

they have to have a good reason why you cant do your role in the shorter hours and its not about their future budgets its about if your role can be done during that timescale.

i.e if your productivity was the same but over less days and it had no service impact (i.e you didnt have people needing to speak to you on your day off urgently) then you can reasonably do your job and they should accept it.

have you tried calling ACA? they're an independent HR advisors and you can call for free advice about what your rights are
