I passed my GTT test (I obviously failed the first one). My numbers were:
Fasting 4.1
1 hr: 8.6
2hr: 8.2
Yeah, so I thought they were high enough to at least be considered borderline, but my OB said all looked good. However, I decided to begin independently testing with a glucose meter. If I am on a strict diet no extra sugars, half the carbs my sugar is around 6. However, the moment I decide to eat regularly it goes up! Yesterday after 1hr after eating rice/chicken and a tablespoon of ice cream (yes, only a tablespoon!) it went up to 10!!!!

I just wanted to know what you ladies thought...or what course of action you would take? Of course I will talk to my OB next week....

I would be cautious, most women do have some degree of resistance in pregnancy (though often slight), but i would avoid anything which makes readings go above 7.8 after 1 hour, this is the target ladies with diabetes are supposed to aim for in pregnancy x

I just failed my GTT with 4.6 fasting and 9.4 at 2 hours. The cut off for the 2 hour sample here is 7.8. I would be careful directly comparing numbers, as it will depend on the amount of glucose you were given (I had 75g in the form of lucozade) and the diagnostic criteria where you are. Check with your doctor at your next appointment, and perhaps keep a record of your diet and blood sugar readings until then to give you something to show them. Good luck x

The rice is more likely what made your sugars high opposed to the icecream x

I would maybe look into following a GD diet roughly - so 1/4 of your plate protein, 1/4 carbs and 1/2 veg and monitor your sugars and see how you get on.

Switch to wholemeal bread/pasta and brown rice too x

So after talking to my OB and explaining to her that my testing showed that I have some intolerance to sugar....she informed me that I am probably borderline and should watch what I eat. I kindoff knew that, but it was nice to get offical confirmation. She also said that I would most likely develop dabetics after pregnancy forward and that I need to henceforth watch my weight and diet. *Sighs* Goodbye to the days of chocolate everyday...But if I learned anything from this experience is that you need to pay attention to your gut..I had a feeling my body was having a hard time processing the sugar and I was right...
