I got this from babycentre:
Does my baby need a passport?
Yes, your baby will need a child passport in order to travel abroad. The passport will be valid for five years. Your local post office has the application forms you need, and the passport should take about three or four weeks to come through.
When you apply, you will need to provide the completed forms and the following:
• Two identical photos. One of which is signed by a professional.
• Documents to prove your baby is British, such as his birth certificate.
• Payment of £46.00.
The photos will need to be of your baby against an off-white, cream or light grey plain background. This is so his features are distinguishable.
It is possible to take your baby's passport photo in a booth but it's not easy. He has to be on his own in the picture so you have to support him at the right height without any part of your body appearing.
You can get a digital photo you've taken at home converted into a passport photo, providing it meets all the requirements. The website Paspic will check that the photo is acceptable before creating the passport pictures for you.
Alternatively you can go to a high-street photographer. Here your baby will be placed on a white sheet or beanbag for his big moment.
The Identity and Passport Service website has more information.
Thanks a lot xxx
