The company I work for offers 6 months maternity leave on full pay. Which you have to pay back if you decide not to go back to work. I was just wondering if anyone has done this. Did they ask for the full amount straight away? Or did you pay it back over a period of time?

Not sure, sorry.
I've heard of this, but I don't know what the usual is.

I think it will depend on your company hun. Mine also do the same but I figured if I don't go back after my year, then i'll go back and hand my notice in straight away :)

This is the case where I work, except you only have to go back for 3 months. If you quit after 3 months, you don't have to pay the maternity pay back. This would be written in your company policy so check it out.

As for how it's paid back - usually the employee and the company come to some sort of reasonable agreement - this is often a monthly pay back amount. Talk to your HR department?

It will be specific to your company's policy.

as far as ive been told u dont have to pay maternity leave money back weather you choose to go back to work or leave a few of my friends left after their maternity leave ran out and have never been back and has been told they dont have to pay it back the best thing to do is go to your nearest citizens advice bureau or call or nip into your local jobcentre xxx

If i didn't return to work for at least 3 months i had to pay back my contractual maternity pay. So i just returned for 3 months, i couldn't afford not to x

Thats true with SMP but not additional monies paid to make up full pay/half poay from your company, those are all company specific :)

oh yer i know you get 95% for the first i think 6 weeks then it drops down to around 120 a week but you dont have to pay any of that back my boss was a tight arse and wouldnt top up our wages x:growlmad:

Mum's under the impression that you shouldn't have to pay it back by law.

Usually you have to go back for 3 months otherwise you have to pay the difference between what you have received less SMP.

all depends on the contract so check with your HR

don't forget your holidays that you will have got whilst on mat leave - including bank hols. I am taking 6 months mat leave with full pay then a months leave, so technically if I don't go back coz I will have back at work a month (on leave) I won't have topay any mat pay back

you dontpay back SMP, but you do pay back whatever extra your company has given you. In NHS its 3 months :) you can quit after 3 months of returning and dont have to pay anything back X
