My husband and I have been trying for over a year, which I know is nothing to some of you. We are considering IVF, in about a year. How do you save for that? Did you get a loan? If so, was it through a normal bank or a loan specifically for fertility? I would basically like any information about IVF payments, seeing as getting pregnant on our own isn't going very well. Also, how much did your IVF cost and did it work?

Hi Sheilarae
Whereabouts are you, can you not use the nhs or private health insurance? We have just paid £4000 for a cycle including drugs but prices vary. Not entitled on the nhs as we have a son who was concieved naturally. Good Luck with it all x

Hi I paid about £4000 for my IVF including drugs. It didn't work but were lucky enough to have some to freeze (about £300).
We paid about £1000 for a natural FET - which did work. I'm 21 weeks pg - so fingers crossed.
Best of luck x

I am from the United States, Tennessee to be exact. I haven't been able to find any kind of insurance that covers any kind of fertility treaments, so I am assuming we will have to pay for all of it out of pocket. Everything I can find says it will cost between 8-15 thousand dollars!

I am having to pay for my own (in the UK) as I am over 40 .... it would have been around £4,000 ($6,150) but I need donor eggs, so it will be more like £5,500 ($8,500) so a little bit cheaper, but not a lot.
It might be worth looking into travelling abroad - prices vary so widely around the world, just make sure you check the reputaion of any place you're thinking of trying.

Until I found out I need donor eggs I was looking into travelling for IVF - but think it's better staying close to home if I have donor things to coordinate as well.

As for saving up - I have until mid-september to scrape the money together. So far I ahve about £1000 in the bank and am squirreling away everything I can....which basically means putting my lodger's rent money and Mr Urch's housekeeping contributions to one side and the 2 of us living off my wage. Mr Urch is meant to be saving too, but so far has had a string of bad luck with cars/vans so hasn't managed to put anything away yet :(

I guess if I don't get all of the money together in time, I will take out a loan. The scary thing is - what do we do if we need a second or third round? We're not on the breadline by any means, but don't have huge amounts of money sloshing around.
It would be nice to be in the position to be able to simply forego foreign holidays for a couple of years, but the money I'm saving is what was meant to be for the house. I bought it 2 years ago off an old couple who had done nothing to it for aout 40 years ... I had it rewired but that's it, it needs a whole new boiler & central heating system, replastering throughout - not to mention the seriously scruffy kitchen and bathroom.
All of these things were on the list to be done - all of them are now behind IVF on the list......still, I would much rather have a baby than a nice house!
