Hello Ladies

This is my first post here. I have been reading your posts and thought you could help me with this.

I was diagnosed with pcos a few months ago, but i think i had it much earlier.

My clear symptom is a prolonged period (10 days) Have had this for almost two years so i think i am not ovulating
I also have unwanted hair in my chest and face.

I am thinking of trying either vitex or maca, but I cant really decide. I have a regular period, meaning it comes every 29 days as an average, but it lasts longer than average. Will vitex mess my cycle up? Should I opt for maca instead? I ve read somewhere that vitex is a much recommended herb for boosing fertility for pcos sufferers.

Thanks

Hi Nofeeta,

Firstly, wanted to tell you that PCOS is a very common syndrome so you dont have to worry about it :) I have PCOS too and I have always had since I was a teen. I was never on birth control and never took any kind of medication for managing symptoms. I do get my monthly periods, though sometimes they are late or some times I totally miss them and have to take progesterone to induce it. But, overall, its not bad because I do get atleast 9 periods in a year.

You said that your bleeding stays for 10 days and that you dont ovulate. If you dont mind me asking, how do you know that you don't ovulate? Have you ever had any ultrasounds or progesterone testing done? I always carried a doubt that I dont ovulate either. However when I started measuring my BBT temp, I realize that I do ovulate on my own. My ovulation is dependent however on lot of factors like stress, sugar consumption, other health issues etc. If you haven't done already, I would recommend that you start looking at your BBT. I highly doubt that every month you are having a anovulatory cycle. But, again thats just my opinion :)

Regarding your actual question, I dont have any idea about Vitex or maca. I havent gone that route yet so never looked into it. Sorry, can't help you much.
