Hello Ladies

I am on CD56. My periods are usually between 29 - 35 days. I went to the doctors the other day as i was experiencing pain in both sides. (where i would expect my ovaries to be)

The first doctor gave me a list of reasons of why my period was late... here is a few she mentioned...uti, pregnancy, hernia or menopause.

I wasn't very happy with her reasons so two weeks later when i still hadn't got my period i went back to the doctors. He said that i had a tenderness and bloating to my left side and the pain i was describing (along with a few other symptoms) sounded like i have PCOS.

He has told me to have some bloods done Friday and he is referring me for a pelvic examination.

I know a little about pcos, but not from someone elses point of view...just google. Also what happens at a pelvic examination???

I hope someone can help me out a little

Thanks xxxx

Hi KayleighLou,
I was in the same boat as you back in March. Came off BCP and having irregular periods..went to the docs, she sent me for bloods and a pelvic scan, which confirmed PCOS. the pelvic scan is fine....some jy jelly on a large rod (bit like a cucumber) and the insert it up the lady garden and have a look around. Take about 15mins or so.

Hope this helps

the scan is painless and will look for cysts on your ovaries and enlargement of them which are indictors of pcos along with bloodwork they can confirm a diagnosis

there are a few syptoms of pcos too that some women get but others dont for example i am really overweight and have insulin resistance also some women can get more hairy than usual

there are treatments available both to relieve the symptoms and help you conceive. i took metformin and am pregnant with my 5th healthy little boy xxx

Oh great more poking about :dohh: :haha:

Im nervous now, i dont really want to have this pain all the time. If it is PCOS is the some type of medicine that reduces the pain... paracetamol doesn't seem to help?

The doctor said i wouldnt get any help with fertility as i have already had children...is that before diagnosis with pcos???

I am considered obese. I am 5ft2 and 12.5 stone. I can seem to lose anything and if i do i just pile it back on the next week. I havent had any excess hair yet but my hair on my head is falling out quite abit. I also have bad acne (being 25 it isnt a good look)

Hi Kayleigh Lou! :hi:
Firstly try not to worry about the trans vaginal ultrasound. Ive had several of them and it only ever gets slightly uncomfortable, rather than painful. I typically worry about things that I don't know what to expect, so I can sympathise!
If the diagnosis is PCOS, then they will probably put you on Metformin. I have PCOS and therefore am insulin resistant. This lead to irregular cycle, acne, weight gain, mood swings, pain etc. Now I have a perfect 30 day cycle and since October have lost 6 and a half stone! I also feel more mentally stable too!! ;) This is thanks to Metformin. So please don't worry! If you are planning on expanding your family.....it will help! Even though we're still waiting!! :D

i have detailed my whole pcos diagnosis in my journal (is from about this time last year? maybe early oct) so have a quick beak if you want to know what to expect.

i have had 2 pelvic US and theyre fine. a bit uncomfortable but they don't hurt. however i have never had any pain with my pcos - that might just be me though. best of luck. if you need to chat or ask anything then drop me a pm. am no guru but i read everything i could find on pcos when i was diagnosed! xxxx
