hi folks.
can anyone help me out.
i did post on the intro page but was recomended i post on this page.
i am 36 with a 3 year old child, took about 4 months to conceive.
had painfull periods for years, to cut a long story short, after 4 long months of pain and very heavy bleeding and sometimes 2 to 3 weeks bleeding went to the doctor.
had bloods taken with a nothing found result.
had smear and was all clear.
then went for internal ultrasound and a exam with the gyne and she told me that i have pcos and endometriosis and a polup in my womb.
bit of a shock to say the least.
i am now waiting for a lap for the polup and the endo, then the doc said i might be going to get some meds and she said metformin, so i have come to the conclusion that i have the insulin problem which would account for the all the little problems what i have, including a bit more hair than i would like and a tummy that looks like i am already pregnant, difficulty loosing weight.
can anyone help me understand what i am to expect with treatment and success rates etc as the long term of pcos did not look god with diabetes heart attack and stroke.
i am confused to say the least, and think i am scaring myself more with more i read on it.
thanks x

didnt want to read and run..sorry hun, no advice from me but i hope someone will give you some. All i can offer is a hug and good luck, sweetie! xxx

Welcome to BNB Lou.

I also have been diagnosed with PCOS. I have to admit, at first I was not a fan of Metformin, the side effects can be pretty icky for a short period. But after almost a year of on again and off agian pill taking I've decided to face it head on, am back on Metformin with determination. I have to say, I also got awful period pains and had very very heavy and long flows.

This past cycle (since taking MET) I had a breeze of a period! It was only 6 days long, and very light - and NO pain.

I highly recommend you follow the metformin if thats what you are prescribed. Initially you can expect some tummy pains, it's quite common to be running to the loo often. That's normal and does subside. Sometimes, you can get a bit of nausea too, again this is common. As long as it's nothing drastic try to put up with it, as it will ease if you continue the pills. Anything that goes too far seek medical advice

Lots of people go on to have healthy children who suffer from PCOS to don't stress too much.

xoxo

Hi Lou. I have also been diagnosed with PCOS and i am also on Metformin SR. Although my cycles weren't too heavey they were just long. I have not suffered at all with a funny tummy or had any other issue with it so you may not experience any either. I have only been taking it for 2 weeks now so don't have a success story for you yet but praying for one. Stick with it though because i truely believe its working for me already.
