Are you allowed to eat peanuts during pregnancy? And if yes, does it cause any problem to the baby?

You are, unless you have eczema or asthma. Then you're meant to avoid them :)

My midwife said to avoid at all costs... and I dont have asthma/excema
She said it's just best to as the baby can have allergies/skin problems..

And I think its a small sacrifice for what we are getting in return!
Someone people would give their right arm to have a baby!!

I have eczema so I'm not allowed peanuts. Dunno about anyone else

It's recommended that you avoid peanuts during pregnancy and breastfeeding if either you or the dad suffer from asthma or excema. My DH suffers from both, but I don't and I love peanut butter, but since I heard that it is 'thought' to be the reason behind the large increase in peanut and other allergies in babies, I have managed to avoid it!:dohh:

I am already starting to dream of freshly baked crusty bread with peanut butter smothered all over it and it's only been 6 weeks since I stopped eating it.:muaha:

I thought you was supposed to avoid them totally

I think if I wasn't allergic or didn't have eczema I wouldn't stop eating them if I wanted to occasionally

there is apparently new research out to say that its ok to eat peanuts and actually if we advoid food during pregnancy that may cause baby allergies once born xx

I have to own up to having the odd peanut butter kit kat chunky here and there. Can't help it!!!!!!

I was told that it is ok to eat peanuts as long as u and the dad aren't allergic or have asthma. Also heard that if you don't eat certain foods the baby can become allergic to the foods you don't eat for instance peanuts. Midwife hasn't said not to eat them :S

i cant eat peanuts as i have asthma but luckily havent craved them xxx

Bah, I eat peanut butter all the time, so did my mom, so did her mom, and so on. We're all allergy free. (I just hope I don't have to eat my words later on!) haha

My doctors never said anything against eating peanuts.

I´ve not been told to avoid them. I´ve had a few nibbles over the past few weeks.

Sometimes I think there is soooooo much info and conflicting views about what to eat and what not to eat, it all just gets confusing. My mum keeps telling me, she didn´t have half the information that I have.

One minute they tell you that you shouldnt eat peanuts then they say its ok. When i asked my MW she said she didnt know!

I have a handful every now and then but not too many.

My consultant at the hospital told me that you shouldn't avoid them at all, it actually builds up the babys tolerance to them when he's born. Apparently we're the only country that this information is given in, and the only country with growing nut allergy sufferers. So there you go.

I guess it depends with what you're comfortable with. I have no problems eating them after he told me that, but if you dont want to, then you don't have to.

xxx

I ate peanuts with all my pregnancies, this time is no exception as I have had cravings for them...........just eat in modertion, that works for me.

I got a book at my booking appointment at the hospital yesterday. It's called 'The Pregnancy Book' and it says "Avoid eating peanuts and foods containing peanut products if you or your baby's father or any previous children have a history of hayfever, asthma, eczema or other allergies." I hope this helpful. My doctor advised me to avoid peanuts as my DH has asthma and is also allergic to them.
