Well I've been spotting dark brown for just over two weeks but fortunately the spotting is getting lighter and we heard a strong heart beat on Tuesday so I'm not so worried anymore. But my midwife said we need to practise "pelvic rest" meaning no sex. Well my hubby and I were both feeling rather frisky this morning. Let's just say that I made sure that his needs were met. Then, when I thought he would reciprocate he said " Oh no, that wouldn't be pelvic rest!" I was so ticked off! I was assuming that I could have an orgasm in another way (without him entering me) and I really felt that he was being selfish. Sorry that this is TMI but I'm not sure how else I can explain the situation. I have read that orgasms make the uterus contract, but I'm wondering, does pelvic rest mean no orgasms at all?? Looking for clarification. Slightly embarassed.

I don't know I'm afraid but I can understand why you are frustrated. I hope someone else has answers for you...

Don't be embarrassed, that's what we are here for :)

I cant really help with total clarification of this, but I would have thought "pelvic rest" meant not full intercourse but external stimulation would be fine.Obviously I'm not a MW, so can't really confirm that.

I know it will be embarrasing but you could give your MW/Dr a ring. Not sure I'd like have that conversation though! Lol

I think I would have hit my DH if he did that to me!

As much as I would also be hugely frustrated I agree with your husband that pelvic rest includes no orgasms - a 'good' orgasm results in your uterus contracting so will cause movement 'down there' just like having something inside would.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news :( x

He is right hun, pelvic rest means no intercourse and no orgasms of any type as they cause the uterus to contract. I have been on bedrest and pelvic rest for 7 weeks so I have already asked about it :P

Thanks for the info and kind words, ladies. Yes, I did feel like hitting my husband after that! LOL I guess I'm just doomed to be sexually frustrated for a while. Ugh

He is right! :( Sorry I was on this for the first 12 or so weeks and it SUCKED!

Hello, I was on this too and assumed it to mean not even Oing was permitted :( However my body had other ideas and I kept Oing in my sleep (not much I can do about that!!!)

Might be best to check with the MW if you aren't sure, no need to be embarassed I'm sure they get questions like this all the time and it's best to be safe!!

Hmmm I'm jealous of your Oing while asleep. Where are those crazy dreams that I'm supposed to be having while pregnant? LOL

I would call your midwife and ask her if you can't O at all, or if you just can't have intercourse. About a month ago, my doctor told me to refrain from intercourse specifically because my placenta was in the way of my cervix, but I could O without penetration with no harm to the baby/placenta.

Not TMI lol Us prego ladies have needs, too!! I do think your husband was being quite selfish, but probably out of concern for the safety of the baby.

I was told to avoid intercourse and I've been too afraid to ask if that meant complete pelvic rest because I'm one frisky biscuit!! I've always had a high sex drive and pregnancy only escalated it. Most of the time I do stop myself before I have a full-on orgasm as I have had orgasms in my sleep which let to cramps. But if I don't have any sort of stimulation the orgasm dreams only get worse. So I have found that enjoying some "fun" prevents the orgasm dreams which I have no control over.

The reasons for my 'no intercourse' have now resolved so I plan on asking my OB at my next appointment if we can start up again.

Starry,
I'm happy for you that those problems have resolved. Hopefully your OB will give you some good news!

Pelvic rest means nothing lol....I know its hard.I had to endure it with my daughter and I know I will make it through this pregnancy as well.
