Hi ladies, you all helped me out with your opinions of girls names and wondering if you can comment on a possible boys name....

Percy

I love it, my husband says its growing on him but we aren't getting many other good comments.

What do you all think?

Thanks in advance!

I think it's cute but for some reason, I'd rather see it on a puppy or a kitten or something.

Do you have any other ideas for a boy?

I think it is a nice name but agree that it reminds me of an animal. First thing that came to mind was a cat. x

Not to keen sorry, but then again some people dont like my choice of name KADEN...so dont worry about it, if u like it go ahead :) xXx

Cant comment much. I had a pony stallion named Percy!

Thanks everyone for your replies, thats actually a new one on me - the animal connection but its good to know.

Any more thoughts?

It makes me think of Thomas the Tank Engine, but probably only because Sam is obsessed with it and we have far too many books, bath toys etc...

If someone introduced me to a little boy called Percy I'd think it was cute though x

I knew a Percy when I was a kid. He was a mega old man though, but super nice and I loved him :)

It suits a little cute boy...and an old cute man hehe!

Not sure about the in between bits though :)

And it kinda reminds me of a parrot......but not sure why?!

I don't like or dislike it....just very neutral. I thought of Harry Potter...not Thomas the Train. It's nice to feel things out on here.

Theres been a couple of people comment about it not being good for the teenage/middle age years. oh its so hard, I love it but worried about it!

I call my son Percy as a nickname lol started as a joke but now if you ask him his name he often says Percy :haha: I really like it lol I call my 2 Percy and Mabel :haha:

I think the name is cute but unfortunately a friend of mine used to use it as her nickname for a 'battery operated friend' of hers!!!

I like it (and Perseus too).

It might even gain popularity with the Percy and the Olympians book series & the movie on the way.

How funny, a 'rabbit' called Percy that isn't referring to an animal! I shall not let that put me off!!!

I wasn't aware there was a book series and film - thanks for that.

I still love it and thank you ladies, so far, not too many really negative comments that you always dread but would rather hear and know than not!

Thanks again

We thought about Percy almost 12 years ago when we were expecting our first. It was my grandfather's name. We got absolutely nothing but total derision, so we didn't use it. I think it's great that in the meantime all these "old man" names, as I think of them, are being used again. Funny how things change in a short amount of time.

And as the mother of an 11 year old, those Percy Jackson books a HUGE, and there is a movie coming out, so that might bring the name into the mainstream and stop people thinking of Thomas and Blackadder!

Percival, with a nickname as Percy - Yes.

Percy on it's own - No.

Not a fan of nicknames as proper names if that makes sense. Especially with a name as proper as that.

Oh there is also Percy Weasley from Harry Potter!

i really don't like it. i love old fashioned names and admit I think that using old fashioned names is back in fashion in a way, but this name is IMO is hideous. It reminds me of percy plod a name of a policeman. I would reconsider. Remember you might really like it, but what happens if your son absolutely hates it? And I think there is a high chance that he won't like it, because it seems a really unpopular name- I think it sounds bad.

Sorry if this sounds horrible, just wanted to be honest, but I admit this is just my opinion. I think you should choose whatever you want, but the whole point of putting up the thread is to know really what people think and I thought it was fairer and nicer in a way to be more honest.
